My alarm goes off at 8 the next morning. Mom wants to get an early start so we could go shopping for some things I need before she leaves. We go to Target and get many essentials that I need for getting ready in the morning. We also get some food that would be able to fit in the mini fridge that we have. Time with my mom and sister goes by so fast. The next thing I know it is time to drop them at the airport.
"Have fun, and make smart choices baby." Mom says with tears in her eyes.
"I will mom. I promise." I was doing everything I could to hold in the tears. I had no idea that it would be so hard to say goodbye to my mom. It is weird to think that I have lived with her for 17 years and then all of a sudden I will be 3,000 miles away from her.
"Bye, party hard for me," Xeva grins at me.
"Always baby sis." I wink at her.
"Well, we should probably go check into our flight baby girl. I love you."
"I love you too, mom," I say as I hug her and hold back my tears. I turn to Xeva and hug her, "See you guys at Thanksgiving." I walk back to my car slowly thinking about how weird it is that I am going to miss my mom and sis so much. I never thought that I would miss them already.
When I got back to campus I unloaded my car and get started on putting everything away. Everybody was away doing their own thing so I was alone in my room. I put my headphones in and decided to listen to some music. I was so busy thinking that I did not hear Ember walk into the room.
She taps me on the shoulder and I scream. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."
"It's okay," I laugh, "I guess I was just in my own little world."
"I could tell. What were you thinking about?"
"Nothing really, I have just had a rough week or so."
"Wanna talk about it?"
"I don't want to bother you with my drama, we've only known each other a day" I laugh.
"Oh I don't mind, plus we will be living together so might as well start somewhere!"
"Are you sure? I don't wanna scare you off."
"I don't think that will happen," she laughs.
"Okay, well you asked for it," I laugh. "I just broke up with my boyfriend before I moved out here. We have had a long history and I just don't know what to do. I wanted to start fresh out here but I don't know how to do that."
"What kind of history are you talking about?" she questions. I then go into the long story of how we interacted in high school and this past summer. She sat and listened to the whole thing. "From what you have told me, that doesn't seem healthy."
"He was a really good guy when he wanted to be."
"Do you still talk to him?"
"No, I don't think I would be able to handle that and start fresh."
"I think you're right."
"Thank you for listening."
"Of course. I have been there. My ex and I did not have a healthy relationship. We were best friends first but then he cheated on me and broke my heart."
"When was this?"
"I was a junior."
"I'm sorry, cheating is awful."
"Yeah it is, but I'm okay now."
"Good." When I first told her the whole story I felt really weird. Who tells someone they just met their whole life story? Me apparently. Insert and eye roll. But when she opened up to me I felt a little bit better.
As we finished talking I heard our living room door open and close. I went into the living room and saw a girl that I have not met yet. That is probably Kamila since she is the only one that I have not met yet.
"Hi! My name is Xorina. You must be Kamila." I smile at her enthusiastically.
"Hi. Yeah, I'm Kamila, nice to meet you Xorina." She says quietly. She must be really shy, I will just have to change that.
"It's nice to finally meet you too!"
"Kamila, here are some of the things we bought." Says a woman that looks a lot like Kamila. "Oh hi! I'm Kamila's mom."
"It's nice to meet you! My name is Xorina."
"Wow, that is a pretty name!"
"Thank you."
"You're welcome!"
"I was wondering if you might wanna grab dinner? I'm hungry and I don't wanna go alone."
"We would love to but it is my last night here and we were gonna go out to eat together." Kamila's mom says.
"Oh yeah, I totally understand! I'll see you around!" I walk into my room and I ask Ember if she wants to get dinner. She eagerly stood up and got ready to go get food. The campus has some fast food places that we could use our dining dollars on. We decide that we want to eat at Qdoba for dinner. We ordered our food, I got the steak nachos and she got a chicken burrito. Since it was nice outside we sat outside and we were talking about random things to get to know each other. After a while, we head back to the room and we decide that we want to watch a movie. Since we did not have a TV we decide that we would watch on her laptop. We put the laptop in the middle of the room and in the middle of the movie I fall asleep.
At 3 in the morning, I hear a loud BEEP BEEP BEEP this is a fire alarm please keep calm and make your way to the closest exit. Take the stairs, do not take the elevator. I look over at Ember and she had just fallen out of bed.
"Ember let's go" I gruffly say to her showing that I was in a deep sleep.
"Hold on," the next thing I know she pulls down her pants.
"Why did you take your pants off? We have to go outside, put on your pants and shoes." I say confused.
"Where are my shoes?"
"In the closet" She grabs her shoes and pulls her pants back up. We walk down the stairs, in the crowd of students in their pajamas, and outside to wait for the okay to go back inside.
Once outside I turn to Ember, "Ember, Why did you pull your pants down?"
"I'm not really sure it was just my first reaction for being scared."
"Your reaction was to pull down your pants?" I question.
"Yeah, I don't know why."
"That's not a good reaction when you are in danger. What if you were being chased by a bear and you pulled your pants down. You would trip." I laugh at the image that just pops into my head.
"Laugh all you want, but I was also partly sleeping."
"Okay, whatever you say!" They finally let everyone back inside and we went back to our room and fall asleep.
