|he's finally home|

REVVING THE ENGINE and spinning around faster than I was comfortable with, Keith sped off. I guess we were really doing this.

Lance handed Shiro to Pidge and he hooked her arms around him in an effort to keep him in place. I settled in on the wing opposite where Lance was sitting, one hand gripping Keith's shoulder, the other Shiro's knee.

"Why am I holding this guy?" Pidge questioned.

"Hey, we did all fit," Hunk said optimistically.

I looked back as the Garrison cars gained on us. My heart began to inch towards my throat, fear clawing at my insides. If the Garrison found us, no doubt we would be in major trouble.

"Can't this thing go any faster?" Lance asked.

Keith spoke up. "We could toss out some non-essential weight."

"Keith," I warned, and I could practically feel him roll his eyes.

"Oh, right!" Lance said, and I shook my head as he realized Keith's intention. "Okay, so that was an insult. I get it."

"Big man, lean left!" Keith commanded, and Hunk did so in response.

The sharp turn sent two cars tumbling backward. It looked painful, and I hoped they were okay.

Hunk's voice came out frantic. "Aw man! Mr. Harris just wiped out Professor Montgomery! No, no. He's fine."

"Big man, lean right!" Keith commanded, and again, Hunk did so in response.

I gripped Keith's shoulder and Shiro's knee tightly as a scream erupted in my throat. We catapulted across a chasm that probably would've killed up had we not landed on another indented path on the side of a mountain. The road felt vaguely familiar, like I had gone on it once or twice, but I couldn't place it. We landed pretty smoothly, but it didn't cease the screaming. We turned sharply as another car lost it's traction and tumbled out of the way. There was only one left, as we began to approach what looked like a deadly drop-off.

"Guys? I-Is that a cliff up ahead?" Hunk stammered, and my stomach dropped.

It was a deadly drop-off. My heartbeat began racing, and I could feel a scream building in my throat. I knew exactly what Keith was doing.

"Oh, no, no, no!" Lance shouted.

"Yup," Keith quipped, and shouts of terror were heard from the others.

"Keith, I swear to God if you kill me I'll haunt you so hard!" I shouted, as he radiated confidence and chuckled a bit, then sped up.

Time suspended as we lept off the cliff, our screams not halting for a second. I squeezed my eyes shut, wondering what might've happened had I ignored the crash. But my hand tightly gripping Shiro's knee reminded me that even though I'm probably going to die, I at least got to see Shiro one more time.

As we plummetted towards the ground, Lance's voice rose above the rushing wind. "What are you doing? You're going to kill us all!"

"Shut up and trust me!" Keith grunted out.

Gripping the brake and adjusting the pedal, right before we crashed to the ground he maneuvered us so we shot forward and off into the desert. Regaining my normal breathing patterns, I rested my head on the hand that gripped Keith's shoulder as he drove us to his house.

"You're so lucky I'm not dead," I groaned. "I would've haunted the hell out of you."
