Chapter 22~

Jillians POV

“Jillian, get up!” A black, ash-covered face stared down at me, tugging at my arm.

My head was spinning with an intense throbbing pain and I clutched my stomach as I lied on the ground.

“Jillian!” the same urgent voice called me.

I lifted my head up to respond when I suddenly felt something wet run down my face.

Nononono. Please no. Please don’t be blood.

I could deal with pain, whether it be a black eye, bruises or broken limbs, but blood—blood always terrified me.

I winced as I gently touched the moist liquid on my face and breathed a massive sigh of relief when I realized that the liquid was clear. Water? From what? I haven’t been sweating.

I was suddenly lifted up into strong arms and I let out a sharp shriek.

“Alex?” I questioned looking up, “What’s going on?”

This is when I realized where the water had come from. There was a massive hole in the roof of the building and it was pouring rain outside.

“You’re going to be fine.” He softy replied.

“No.” I struggled out of his grasp and he finally put me down on the ground. My vision instantly clouded and I needed a few seconds to compose myself. “What happened?”

“Apparently you have friends who really care about you.” He stated, still not answering my question. “Follow me. Are you okay to walk?”

I nodded my head and was about to follow him when I noticed a crumpled body on the floor across what was left of the room from us. Larc laid motionless on the floor and I gasped.

“Come on. We have to hurry.” Alex grabbed my hand and started walking.

We past the grey halls of the building in a hurry and for a moment I was struck with a paranoia fear that other guards in the building would find us and shoot us down.

As if reading my thoughts Alex looked over his shoulder as he walked “Security will be here within the next few minutes so we have to hurry, there is an underground tunnel in the basement. If we can reach it in time we’ll be fine.”

He picked up his pace and I matched it. I still couldn’t fully grasp what was going on. Friends? What had he meant by friends? My mind suddenly cleared and I realized who must have been behind this. I began running. Logan had found me. He was okay and he found me. It felt as though I could explode from happiness. Jason was probably behind this too. They were probably both safely waiting on the other side of these gates.

Alex looked at me with shock and quickly caught up beside me. He led the way as we sprinted past the security cameras.

A red light and alarm began blaring, filling up the hallways.

“That’s the alarm signaling an escapee emergency. They know you’re gone and if they were smart enough to check the security footage in this panic, which I’m assuming they did, then they know that I’m with you.”

We arrived at a door with a security access reader and Alex quickly swiped his employee card and the door opened. Once on the other side of the door Alex turned on the lights and pulled out his gun. My eyes went wide in shock as I feared the worst but was even more surprised when he took the butt of his gun and forcefully smashed the side of the door, destroying the security access card reader. “It’ll take much longer for them to get through here.”
