Chapter twenty~
Jillian’s POV
I ripped my arm away from Braeden and made a mad dash for the pickup truck. Trevor left his keys in the ignition and it was my only hope of escape from here. I was willing to bet that the massive vehicle had enough horse power to rip through the gates. The only problem was that I would have to be going fast enough. If I didn’t pick up enough speed I doubt the heavy duty locks on the gates would break—I’d surely die on impact.
I could feel my feet slip in the sand-like gravel and I nearly face planted the ground. Luckily I picked up my feet and just kept running. My lungs burned from the speed I was going at and for once I wish I had worked out more often. Out of the corner of my eye I could see guards running from their posts trying to catch up to me. Only 20 more feet and I’d be home-free.
Suddenly my body stopped dead in its tracks and began tremoring from an excruciatingly painful electric current running through my body. Braeden who had quickly caught up had just tazered me with a stun gun. Sonofabitch. My body crumpled to the floor—weakened and beat.
A sharp pain went through my left shoulder as my arms were roughly swung behind me and a sharp *click* confirmed my thoughts.
“Let’s see you try to get out of these, sweetheart.” Braeden breathed into my ear as he yanked me up off of the floor and I shuddered—not sure whether it was from the after-effects of the stun gun or disgust. Likely the latter.
With Braeden holding on to one arm and Trevor holding onto the other they dragged me back to Larc.
“Can you loosen these up a bit?” I asked Braeden, wincing from the pain from the handcuffs.
“Sure.” Braeden smiled and roughly grabbed the handcuffs, squeezing the rims with his hands, tightening them even more.
I hissed through clenched teeth trying to breathe through the pain as they dug through my wrists.
“Let’s see if you embarrass me in front of my leading Commander again.”
Braeden and Trevor walked me back to a very irritated Larc.
“Is this the kind of control you’ve had over her throughout your entire trip? I expected a stricter and more efficient job from you two.” Larc huffed.
“Well…we did manage to get her here, sir.” Trevor quietly spoke up.
Braeden smacked Trevor upside the back of his head, muttering “idiot” under his breath.
“Well sir, you should know that unfortunately we had two casualties along the way which were crucial in order to properly extract her.” Braeden looked at me curiously. “She claims that they were her ‘friends’. Since then she has put up quite the fight, despite our efforts to calm her down.”
“You don’t know that they’re dead.” I spat.
“Oh, they’re dead alright.” Trevor said, putting his hands in his pockets.
“You should have just sedated her during the trip.” Larc said looking at the two men as if they were idiots.
“With all due respect sir, how? We had no sedatives—” Braeden looked to Trevor accusingly.
“Well shit man, I forgot. I’m sorry.” Trevor said with his hands raised innocently.
“Idiot.” Larc and Braeden muttered in unison.
“Well at least we got her here.” Trevor exclaimed.
“Just shut up Trev.” Braeden rolled his eyes.
“Now as previously planned, time to go back to our schedule Jillian, hopefully this time with no silly interruptions.” Larc said walking towards the entrance of the building. He swiped a plastic key card across the sensor attached to the edge of the door and the doors automatically opened, welcoming us.
I loathed this man. I had barely known him twenty minutes and already I loathed him. I planned on the millions of ways I would kill him if I had the chance as he endlessly rambled on, stopping at each door, probably explaining the purposes of each room. I didn’t care about his fancy little facility. I just wanted him dead.
My mind kept drifting back to Logan and Jason—wondering if they were okay—if they were even alive. Logan probably had internal bleeding. He could have died from that. Jason was most likely dead. He was shot in the abdomen—many major arteries or organs could have been hit. Under the assumption that they are alive, I wondered if I would ever see either of them again. I might die before I even get the chance.
“And this,” Larc grinned, “is your room Jillain.”
I snapped out of my daydream and looked into the room we were in front of. It was had grey concrete walls, a grey concrete ceiling and a grey concrete floor. The door was made out of industrial steel by the looks of it with a small bullet-proof window. A small single bed with nothing but a mattress and blanket occupied the small room.
“Now it isn’t the nicest room, but it’ll support your survival needs.” Larc smiled. “If you had been more cooperative earlier we could have found you a more comfortable room. Tsk tsk. What a shame.”
I was lead into the room and Braeden removed my handcuffs.
“Time for you to get settled into your new home.” Larc hummed.
And with that, the three men left, closing and sealing shut the door behind them.
