Chapter seven~
I marched towards the car, Logan chasing suit.
"Maybe it wasn't as bad of a sunburn as you thought!" he panted when he caught up to me.
Halting in my tracks, I turned around abruptly to face him. "I couldn't move when you found me! Sunburns that severe don't just disappear so don't tell me I'm imagining things. Something is off about you Logan - you're the only person I've ever met who doesn't forget about me ten secounds after I leave, literally. You somehow manage to speed up the healing of my cut arm and you know the location to some crazy-ass magical healing spring. I may be strange, but I'm not a fool, you either tell me what the fuck is going on or I'll find out some other way."
He put his arm over his head, rubbing his neck in concentration. "Jillian, you're not allowed to know yet. I haven't been given the go-ahead. Can't you just wait a bit-"
"Go-ahead?" I whispered, wincing. It felt as if I had just been stabbed in the stomach, the hurt overwhelming me, "Are you saying that I'm some sort of assignment? That I'm some sort of assignment to you? You were just staging to be my friend to keep me occupied until you were allowed to tell me something? I knew this was too good to be real."
"No, that's not all true. There's a good explanation for all of this."
"Then tell me," I begged, "I have a right to know."
He seemed to be having a debate with himself and finally looked down at me with sad eyes. "I-I can't Jilly Bean. I'm sorry."
I shook my head in disappointment, "Goodbye Logan."
Just as I was beginning to walk away I felt someone grab my hand, "You're far away from your hotel, just get in the car, I'll drive you there."
"Why should I? We're not friends. And I don't accept rides from strangers."
I shoved passed him before I could change my mind. I admit, saying that to him was a low ball even for me. I just pushed away the only person who cared about me in the whole world. Well, maybe not cared. If he cared, he would have told me what was happening.
I was so wrong about him. So blinded by what I wanted to see, wanting to be able to have at least one friend in the world.
As I walked along the shoulder of the road, thinking, I dragged my feet and kicked the dirt in front of me with each step. My thoughts were soon interrupted by the sound of a car motor.
Logan's car came up beside me and it was slowly crawling as I walked. He rolled down his windows.
"Jillian. This is nonsense. You're ten kilometers from your hotel and it's getting dark."
"Leave me alone." I grumbled.
See the thing is, the good side to not having any friends, is that you never get stabbed in the back. I didn't know it was going to hurt this much being mad at him though.
After twenty minutes of walking I looked to my left. Logan was still driving alongside me. He was gazing at me with such a fierce intensity that butterflies fluttered in my stomach. Why was he still following me?
"Ugh. He is so stubborn!" I thought aloud.
"Funny, I was thinking the same thing about you."
"Logan-"
"Jillian please just trust me. I know you're pissed off and I understand why but I really did sincerely want to be your friend. Can you please just let go of your anger towards me for just a few more days? That's all I need."
He had been trying to convince me to get in the car for the past twenty minutes but I wasn't giving in. My gut was telling me not to.
"I'm almost there Logan, so just go. I'm not getting in that car with you. You're just wasting your time."
He scowled and his cell phone rang.
"Hello? Yeah she's right here. But she refuses to get in the car until I tell her what's going on. I tried! She refuses to listen to me." There was a long pause as Logan listened to the person on the other end. "B-but she can get hurt." he whispered. After a few more secounds he closed his phone and threw it in the cup holder, with more force than needed.
"Please Jillian; just get in the car, you made your point. It's dark." He said with gritted teeth, his eyes pleading.
"No. Go away." I refused once again.
He let out a sad sigh and hit the gas pedal with his foot, leaving me behind.
Once his car had disappeared out of sight I felt slightly disappointed, I didn't really think he was going to do it. Leave me. All alone. In the dark. Without a light.
I shivered at the idea of being abandoned. Why had I told him to leave? I clearly wasn't thinking properly.
I began walking quicker; trying to speed up the time I would have to be out here. My arms were getting chilly and I built up my speed further, jogging steadily, and then sprinting.
Five minutes passed, then five minutes more, then another ten. I was sweating and my legs were numb. Feeling like I was going to collapse, I accidentally tripped on a slick trail of mud that I couldn't see on the side of the road, and my feet lost their footing. I fell, crashing down the slope. I let out a hair-raising scream as my ankle bent in an unnatural position, letting out a sharp crack. I sat on the damp, grassy floor whimpering and cradling my broken ankle.
"I'm so fucking stupid." I cursed at myself.
I'm probably the only person in the world who is clumsy enough to break their foot while jogging. I have never broken anything before and the pain was searing. For a minute I debated going back to the healing spring in the crevice. It was at least a forty minute walk for an uninjured person, it would probably take me two hours and I knew for a fact it would be a really painful trip. I decided against it-my hotel was closer and I could come back to the springs tomorrow.
After about ten minutes, I built up the courage to slowly get up and I began crawling up the hill. The process was slow but I made it to the top in about five minutes. I tried to stand up and limp, but only managed five little jumps before I fell down on my ass again. My breathing hitched as the hard ash fault hit my broken foot and my body began to tremble. The pain was unbearable and I just wanted it to stop. I huddled into a ball. Going any further was unrealistic and I was going to have to give up. I closed my eyes, trying to block out the pain and after what felt like hours, I was grateful to the sleep that consumed me.

Okay so I know this is a short one, but I really wanted to add a 'Logan's point of view' next, hence needing a new chapter :) I'll try and update soon. Please comment and vote
