Chapter 23~

Logan’s POV

I engulfed her in my arms, not willing to let go. She was safe, and that was all that mattered. I looked down on her, her light auburn hair nestled in my shoulder. I stepped back slightly and she looked up at me. Her hazel eyes sparkled in happiness and I could see a glaze forming with threatening tears.

Before I could stop and change my mind I leaned forward and crashed my lips onto hers. Adrenaline coursed through my body as she kissed me back with so much passion that the rest of our surroundings just blurred into nothingness. She was the only one. The only thing that I could focus on as our lips moved in perfect unison. Her delicate hand slid around my neck and with my arm around her waist, I held her closer to me. Her breath hitched and I smiled in our kiss.

Someone clearing their throat from behind us broke us from our daze and we hesitantly moved apart. A cold, numbing feeling was left on my lips and I was tempted to pull her back to me. But now was not the time or place. We weren’t safe.

Alex stepped forward; clearly not amused, until he was in the empty space between Jillian and I. “I think it’s time to go. We aren’t out yet.”

Jillian just now seemed to notice the people standing behind me.

“Did-did you bring an entire army?” She stuttered looking both puzzled and bewildered.

There were twenty other ciphers dressed in black behind me, all holding AK-47 guns. They were essential in successfully fulfilling this mission.

“I’ll explain everything once we get out of here.” I reassured, taking her hand in mine.

We walked steadily at a quick pace until we reached the end of the tunnel. It didn’t take very long. There were four other Cipher’s guarding the exit and I nodded to them in appreciation.

“Only two casualties on the opposing end, sir.” One of the Ciphers addressed me.

“Good work boys, let’s get going.”

We turned the corner where three vehicles were parked—one was a Hummer, the other two were army busses. The other Ciphers piled into the busses while I lead Jillian and Alex over to the Hummer. I opened the door for Jillian so that she could get into the passenger seat and I ran around to the driver’s side. Alex got into the back and I started the vehicle.

I turned around to face Alex, “It’s not that we don’t trust you, it’s just a safety measure that we need to take. Please put it on and keep it on.” I handed Alex a blindfold. He held the blindfold in his hands and grunted but reluctantly put it on.

We sped out of the woods and onto the empty highway until we reached a small clearing in the woods on the side of the road. I quickly veered left and the busses behind me followed suit. It was a bumpy gravel road but out of sight. Larc’s men didn’t know about this place and that’s what mattered at the moment.

“We’re going to a safe haven.” I turned to face Jillian. She was being very quiet and I could only imagine the questions she had running through her head. I lightly ran my thumb across her hand. “There are many safe havens made by us around the country. A few have been compromised by wandering hunters and geocachers but they were not quite as well hidden like the one we are going to now.”

I made a right at a concealed pathway. If you weren’t familiar with the path, you would definitely hit a tree. After another five minutes of hidden turns and rough terrain we finally arrived at the site.

“There’s nothing here.” Jillian mumbled quietly.

“That’s because it’s not supposed to be easy to see. It’d be nearly impossible to know it was here unless you already knew about it.” I smiled.
