Chapter six~

The sun was slowly setting as we drove in Logan's car, parallel to the ocean. My sensitive, sunburned back was beginning to loosen up.

After about ten minutes, Logan pulled over to the side of the road and went around the car to open the door for me. I gave him a quiet thank you and stepped out, looking around. It looked like the same beach we were at before only there were no people and the water didn't look as shallow. Logan was already walking away, towards the water and so I followed and tried catch up.

"If you wanted to go swimming, we could have just stayed where we were." I called up to him.

"This is more fun. Just wait." he replied over his shoulder.

We walked a bit further down the beach and came to a giant natural structure seemingly composed of massive rocks stacked upon more massive rocks.

Logan started climbing and I just stood there with my gaping mouth, staring up at him.

"Come on!" he yelled down to me.

He wants to get himself killed. So many accidents could happen, so risky.

"I don't know if I can climb that."

I didn't want to.

He started climbing back down and I let out a sigh of relief, thankful that he wasn't going to make me climb it.

Then he did the unexpected.

He grabbed my hand, looked into my eyes and promised, "Don't worry, I won't let you fall."

I couldn't breathe, couldn't think. He was holding my hand. Before I even realized what I was doing, my body was climbing up beside his, my hand still enclosed in his.

Once we reached the top I looked out to the ocean, there was just the fainted strip of light above the horizon. It was an immaculate picturesque moment.

I began walking forward when an arm shot out in front of me protectively and stopped me in my tracks. I looked up at Logan in confusion, slightly pissed off that he ruined my blissful moment, and he simply pointed in front of my feet.

I stared in shock at ground as a deep crevice sunk before me. One more step and I would have fallen in, likely breaking every bone in my body.

"Follow me," he said nodding towards the crevice "and watch your feet."

He then slowly began to descend into the crevice. I looked over the side and saw him climbing down a long rope ladder.

You know that gut feeling when you think something is a really bad idea, and you know you shouldn't do it because you'd regret it later? Yeah, I was getting one of those now. Tempted to just turn around and leave, I weighted my options: either I leave now, looking like a wuss, offending Logan-possibly resulting in never seeing him again, or climbing down the ladder, finding out what he wants to show me and be adventurous, which could possibly result in a death -Yeahhhh no. I think I'd rather look like a wuss.

As I started walking away, I heard Logan shout, "Jillian! Don't you even think about leaving me here all alone. If I were to die, they would never find my body, and it'd be your entire fault!"

I stomped my foot in annoyance.

His scheming intentions were successful because I felt the guilt wash over me and I practically signed my death warrant when I squeezed my eyes shut and began climbing down the ladder. My sunburn was searing with pain, getting worse and worse with every step I climbed down.

"I'm going to kill this idiot." I muttered to myself.

"It's alright. You're almost here." He called up to me.
