I was at Connor's house when there was a knock at the door. That was odd, he wasn't expecting anyone. I walked over to the door and saw Davis standing there. Wondered what he wanted.
I opened the door, not thinking only to have a gun pointed at me. He waved it at me as I backed up, shocked.
He came inside and closed the door behind him, locking it.
"Is Connor here?"
"No. Why?"
"Then this would make things much easier," he smiled evilly as he charged me. Oh hell no buddy. You nut job. I ran. He chased me through the house as I grabbed a bases and hit him with it, causing him to fall backward and drop the gun. I ran, until I came to Connor's studio.
I opened it and as soon as I was inside, I closed the door and locked it. I saw a couch and ran behind it as I hid. God this brought back the horrible memories of the Miller's.
I heard Davis's voice as it echoed through the hallway, "Seraphinaaaaa. Come out, come out wherever you are. I know you're here somewhere. I can smell your fear. Don't you want to play like we did when you were younger."
Younger? What the hell was he talking about? As I sat there hiding, I closed my eyes and that's when memories of the Millers hit.
Flashback
"Seraphinaaa. Where are you? Don't you want to play?"
Please don't let him find me. I prayed. As I cowered under the bed, I could hear Rusty's footsteps thumping against the floor. I closed my eyes praying he didn't find me.
Before I knew it, I felt someone grab my ankle, yanking me out from under the bed. He picked me up and threw me on the bed, only to climb on top me. I closed my eyes shut tightly, then felt his weight lifted off of me.
I opened my eyes to see Roman, beating the hell out of Rusty as I backed up against the wall, shaking.
"Touch her again and I will break your hands," he growled as he gave Rusty one swift kick. After that day I never saw Rusty again.
Flashback ends.
Oh god. I never knew his last name was Davis.
"Seraaaaaa. Where are you?"
I needed to get out of here. I saw a window and ran over to it. As I worked to get it opened, Rusty start pounding on the door. I looked around and found a sculpture. Sorry Connor but no way in hell was I staying here.
I took it and slammed it against the window, over and over until it broke. Getting rid of the sharp pieces of glass, I climbed through, making my way out of the room just as the door busted open.
Rusty fired the gun, missing me as I got out. Then I ran. As I came around the front I ran smack into Connor.
"Sera?"
"Davis. Gun. Rusty," I spoke not being able to form coherent sentences.
He looked at Taylor, "go." Taylor nodded and ran to the front door. He kicked the door in and made his way inside.
The next thing I heard was gunshots as I buried my head into his chest while he wrapped his arms around me. My heart was beating out of my chest rapidly as everything went deafly quiet.
Taylor emerged and I peeked out from Connor's chest.
"Well?"
"I caught him trying to go through a window. Told him to stop. He took aim and I shot him. He's dead Connor," Taylor said emotionless.
At that moment, none of it made sense.
********
We stood there as police questioned us. I watched as they wheeled Rusty's body out. I hated him then and I hated him now.A car pulled up and Roman and Casey got out, running towards me. Roman ran up and hugged me, "are you okay?"
"Rusty," was all I could manage.
"What?" He pulled away and looked at me.
I looked up at him, "Rusty from the Millers. His last name was Davis."
Roman furrowed his brows as he looked at him. I didn't have to tell him. He knew.
As the police investigated, Connor and Taylor were talking as we walked over. Connor mentioned the Millers.
"Connor?"
He looked at me.
"Why are you so interested in the Millers," I asked him.
He walked towards and placed his hands on my arms, "because they need to be dealt with. They put you through hell Sera."
"You can't take matters into your own hands. Yes they were horrible people but I never saw them again when I left. It's a part of my past I left behind," I reasoned.
"I just want to protect you because I love you that much," he assured me.
"Then leave it alone," I said to him as he looked at me with furrow brows. Roman and Casey looked at him, nodding.
"Okay," he said as he pulled me to him and I wrapped my arms around him.
The Millers were horrible people. When I had been pulled from them along with Roman, I never saw them again. I never wanted to. They were my past I left behind and wanted to keep them in the past.
Whatever happened to them, I didn't know and I didn't care to know. To me, my future didn't include them.
They say our past shapes us. In a way that's true but it doesn't define us. What we make of it and what we do in the future makes all the difference. The past is gone, the future hasn't been written but the present is a gift.
I choose to treat the present as such and look towards a brighter future with Connor.
