I walked into the house and removed my coat with the intention of getting to work but C altered those plans. I felt someone turn me around and lips crash onto mine taking me completely by surprise.
"Good morning," he said cheerfully.
"Good morning," I responded with a smile and blush.
"So, I was thinking, we could go have breakfast."
"Oh. But Mr. Thompson will be expecting breakfast."
"Actually you're in luck. He's gone for a few days," he grinned.
"Oh? Is something wrong?" I was concerned because I had never known Mr. Thompson to leave.
"Nope. He had some galleries he wanted to check out."
I looked at him confused. For someone elusive he sure got out a lot. C grabbed my coat and handed it to me, "I'm starving."
I took my coat and pulled it on. Then he led me outside to the car. We got inside and he pulled out of the driveway, making our way to a restaurant. He pulled up to a diner and got out. This was different but so much better. I got out and followed him inside.
We walked in and sat down in a booth. A waitress came to take our order then we talked.
"Apparently you made a good impression on my parents and family yesterday."
"They seem nice." There was a slight hesitation in my voice.
"Sera, they're not snobs if that's what you think."
"Oh no. It's just I've never dealt with meeting someone's parents besides Casey's."
"I think you did just fine." He gave me a soft smile.
The waitress returned with our food and we ate. Then I heard someone say, "Sera?"
I looked up to see Casey and Roman. They made their way over to us.
"Hey guys."
They looked at me then at C.
"So, this is why we haven't heard from you," she smiled.
"Guys this is C. C this is Casey and Roman. They own Midway Gallery," I introduced them.
He held out his hand and shook theirs, "nice to meet you."
"What are you both doing here," I asked them.
"We stopped to get some breakfast on our way into the gallery," Roman replied.
"Oh."
"We need to do dinner Friday and catch up. Bring your friend with you," Casey said to me while looking at C.
"Um, okay." I looked at C. "If that's okay with you?"
He gave me a smile, "sure. It sounds fun." I returned his smile.
"Guess Friday it is."
They smiled then I watched Roman drag Casey away before she had a chance to say anything else. That was weird.
I looked at C.
"You're friends are very interesting."
I gave him a look and a sheepish smile.
After breakfast, we drove back to the house. I really needed to get some work done. I didn't want Mr. Thompson to think I was skirting my duties while he was gone. C was making it impossible though.
"C, I need to work."
"Sera, I need to have fun."
"Then go have fun."
"Only if you have fun with me."
"C."
"Sera."
"No. I have to get my work done."
"Why? It's not like he will notice while he is gone."
"But I will noticed."
As we went back and forth we didn't hear the door open and close. Then someone cleared their throat. I turned to come face to face with a man.
"Having fun?" He gave us a look.
"Actually yeah we are," C grinned.
I looked at him, then it dawned on me who it was.
"Mr. Thompson," I whispered.
He looked at me and I looked at him, "excuse me?"
"Ah, yes. Mr. Thompson you have returned rather suddenly," C said walking by me and over to him. He leaned over and was whispering something to Mr. Thompson then they nodded.
Mr. Thompson cleared his throat, "ah yes. I forgot something in my studio. C, would you help me?"
"Why of course." They both walked by me quickly and C grinned.
I stood there dumbfounded. All this time of working for Mr. Thompson, he was nothing what I thought he would be. He was an attractive man for sure but something was so off about him.
I did some cleaning around the living room when both of them returned. This was my chance.
"Um, Mr. Thompson," I said getting his attention.
They stopped, "yes?"
"I just wanted to thank you for this opportunity sir. You have been so kind to me and I hope you are happy with my work."
"Sure thing Susan. You make an excellent maid. Keep up the good work. By the way, I am going to be having a party tomorrow night. I will expect you to be there to take care of everyone," he smirked.
I stood there shocked.
"Don't forget your uniform," he gestured as he turned and left.
I stood there completely shocked. From the moment I arrived Mr. Thompson seemed like a nice man but after having met him face to face, he was an absolute jerk.
"Sera?"
"I have to get back to work," I whispered feeling completely dejected.
I went about my work, trying not to think of what Mr. Thompson said. But he was right, I was just a maid and he called me Susan. Now I understood why there were rules.
I finished up my work for the day and grabbed my coat.
"Sera are you okay?"
"Uh, yeah. I got to get to the gallery and find a uniform for Mr. Thompson's party," I said quietly.
C looked at me with furrowed brows, "Sera? You know he didn't mean any of that?"
"It's okay C really. It's true. I am just a maid. I've got to go."
I grabbed the handle and left. I made my way to the gallery thinking about this party. Apparently there was a party tomorrow night I was unaware of. I had no idea and I was absolutely fuming.
I text Roman to let him know I couldn't work at the gallery because I had to find a maid's uniform for the party tomorrow. He understood and sympathized with me. At least he did.
I walked into a store and search for a uniform. I found one in my size. I was lucky. I placed it on the counter and the cashier rung it up. I handed her the money and paid for it.
I had no idea how I was going to do this alone. I had never worked a party before. I had no idea how many people were going to be there.
I also had to prepare food for them as well. This was an absolute nightmare.
At home I sat down and started hitting some notes down when my phone rang. It was C. I couldn't talk to him. I had too much to do.
Casey and Roman also called but I didn't answer. I needed to figure out how to whip a miracle out of thin air.
Tomorrow I would make some calls and have food delivered. That would save some time and drinks as well.
This shouldn't be too difficult. I hope.
