"It's a nice place here. Why did you move?" I asked to make conversation. But I saw Sal hesitated to answer, so I knew this was a can of worms I didn't want to pry open. "Ahh, our coffees are here" I said to change the subject as his mother walked over.
"There you go, two cappuccinos" Sals mom said as she placed them in front of us.
"Thank you" me and Sal said in unison.
"I'll leave you both to it" She said with a smile as she walked off.
"I'm sorry about her" Sal laughed.
"I like her" I said with a smile. "Where's your dad?" I asked. Sal looked down and again hesitated an answer. "Sorry" I said, knowing I was bringing up something he didn't want to talk about.
"No it's fine" Sal sighed. "It's just...." He being, with uncomfort in his voice.
"You don't have to explain" I said as I placed my hand above his.
"Thanks for being so understanding" Sal said with a smile.
"I'm here if you need me" I softly said. Me and Sal let our hands rest on each other's as we got transfixed into each other's eyes. Until I realised there was a moment between us, I quickly snapped myself out of the daze. I cleared my throat and removed my hand.
"We should- uh- get going" I said.
"Where to?" Sal asked.
"I don't know.... a walk on the beach perhaps?" I suggested.
"Sure" Sal agreed.

I had to snap myself out of that daze. There was a definite connection between us... but if there was anything between him and Kelly- I wouldn't want to be the person to step in their way.
