After sitting peacefully together watching the sunset for a good half hour, me and Sal decided it was time to get going.
"Today's been great" I said, as our hands were still intertwined.
"It's been amazing" Sal replied with a smile.
"It's getting pretty dark, and we are a good two hours away from the beach house" I pointed out.
"Yeah... maybe we could stay over my parents' place then head home tomorrow" Sal suggested.
"Sounds good" I said.****
Me and Sal wandered back to his parents place. It was a little house next to their cafe. We knocked the wooden door awaiting the answer. The door finally freaked open, revealing Sals Dad stood there; wearing a scruffy blue flannel shirt with jeans.
"Hey Dad~" Sal begun.
"What do you want?" His father sternly asked.
"We were wondering if we could stay the night? It's just we have no where to go" Sal carefully explained.
"Where's your three other friends?" His father sarcastically asked, showing he hasn't forgiven Sal.
"Forget it" Sal muttered as he turned away.
"Please Mr Vulcano? It would mean so much" I pleaded. He softly looked at me with a sympathetic look.
"Fine. You can stay in the spare bedroom" his father said.
"Thank you" I replied.
"How come he'll agree with you?!" Sal whispered. I playfully slapped his chest as we followed his father."You can sleep here. If you need anything we will be downstairs" Sals Dad explained and walked off.
"Well.... at least we have somewhere to stay" I said.
"I suppose" Sal quietly spoke.
"What's wrong?" I asked him.
"It's just... I want my father to love me again" Sal sighed.
"Of course he's loves you... he just has trouble showing it. Maybe he wants you to open up to him first" I suggested.
"I guess" Sal said, warming to the idea.
"It's 11pm, we should get to bed" I said.So with that, I crawled under the duvet and turned onto my side and gently drifted to sleep. Sal soon climbed into bed beside me. I soon felt him wrap his warm arms around me and pull me closer to him.
Sals mother soon walked up the stairs and opened the door, expecting us to be awake, but we were fast asleep in eachothers arms.
"How cute" she whispered to herself with a smile as she soon closed the door.Around 2am I woke up very thirsty. I slowly removed Sals around me, and quietly crept downstairs. I saw a bright glaring screen from across the room. I soon approached it to see Sals father in the computer typing away.
I cleared my throat to grab his attention. He sharply, and quite jumpy, turned around.
"Sorry" I immediately said.
"No problem. I didn't realise anyone was up" Sal's father apologised.
"What are you doing anyway?" I asked.
"I'm working on my novel" He said.
"Really?! Your write??" I asked excitedly as I grabbed a seat beside him.
"Yep, but I've never been published. And I'm too old to now" he sighed. "Do you write?" He asked me.
"I've written... but never been published. It was my dream to be a published author" I said. "But in the real world I couldn't... but luckily I get to work with your son" I said with a smile.
"Have you got a book? A completed book?" He asked.
"Yes, but nobody has ever read it" I said. Sals father bent down into his desk drawer and pulled out a sheet of paper. He unfolded it, and from what I could see it was a form.
"Have this.." he said as he passed me it. I read the sheet through.
"No.. I cant" I said. "I cant enter my book to win a chance to go to World Publisher University" I said.
"Any aspiring author that wants to become a real author would love this chance. I kept this as some sort of hope I could go.. but now you have a real chance!" He explained.
"I ave always wanted to go.." I contemplated.
"Then do it!" He said.
"What if I have to move?" I stressed.
"You may not even win, but there's a chance" he persuaded me.
"Okay.." I said as I filled it out.
"There you go" he said with a smile. "I can't believe I've met someone who loves writing too" he said in amazement. I passed him a warm smile.
"Does anyone else know you write?" I asked, but he shook his head. "Not even Sal?" I asked. His face dropped and shook again.'Maybe if he's starting to like me- I could mention Sal'
"You should show him" I said.
"There's never any time. He doesn't visit. He left years ago to do some comedy thing, and left the family" he sulked.
"But he's successful now" I said.
"But he left the family business" Sals father said.
"My parents always wanted me to be a director. My mum and Dad were both successful directors and they always wanted me to do it, but I wanted to be an author and a producer. Luckily I had the chance to be a producer. In the long run; they understood and agreed with my decisions. They also wanted my brother to be a director, but he's an editor for a newspaper" I explained. "Everyone has their own individuality and as much as you would've liked to have Sal as part of the family business, he obviously prefers comedy" I added.
"I suppose" His father said, nodding his head.
