It was an unusual sight for ill and injured people; the Avengers in a waiting room, almost all of them crying. No one dared asked for a picture, which was the most respectful humanity and life in general had been to them.
May couldn't be kept in the dark, so Tony text her to come to the hospital. She arrived no more than ten minutes later, rushing to where they all where. She knew her Nephew and his best friend were superheroes, but she thought they were going on mild, non life threatening ones. Now, she was running through a hospital to where Peter was mourning over his best friend.
"Peter, what's-" She said, before being stopped by Tony
"Y/n's gone. I'm sorry" He said, before letting her past to Peter. She said nothing, but hugged him tight as he began to cry again. He was drained, and the sudden shock May had encountered left her crying softly into his hair. Tony forced himself to look away, putting a hand through his hair. The information he had on Y/n's real parents was still sinking in; telling them right now would be awful-especially since they knew her shortly before she died.
The doctor walked into the waiting room, looking over at the Avengers with awe.
"Mr Stark, it's truly incredible" The doctor said, making the heartbroken team look up
"What?" Peter said, wiping his eyes and nose on his sweatshirt sleeve
"Whatever is in her bloodstream is refusing death. It's fighting for her life." The doctor said, and Stark stood back up from his seat.
"She's alive?"
"It's the Protector Stone! It's-" Peter said, smiling as he realised his best friend was ok
"I didn't say she's alive, but the Stone in question is giving her heart small jolts every minute. It's possible we can revive her" The doctor said, before leaving us in the waiting room again. Peter's smile faded as he realised it was only a possibility. His heart dropped to his feet with cold dread. Wanda hadn't moved since the news was revealed.
Three more hours passed in the waiting room and they had seen people come and go-a woman even left with a baby in that time. They had been in the hospital room for at least twelve hours, and even though hope had been slightly restored, it was diminishing again.
"Mr. Stark-you and another can see her. We're...we're about to pull the plug" He solemnly said, sighing before gesturing for him to follow.
"She'd want all of you in there" Peter meekly said, and Tony nodded.
"Alright. Can we all come?" He asked the doctor, who reluctantly nodded before all the Avengers got up and walked into the tiny room. Y/n was in the middle of it, her face relaxed and less tense. Her h/c hair was tangled slightly, and her e/c eyes weren't visible. Her face looked faded, some dried blood staining her hairline. Peter looked away, May shielding his view as he buried his head in her chest. She placed a hand over his head, kissing the top of it.
The Avengers went round, either squeezing her hand or kissing the top of her head. Peter walked forward towards the bed, holding her cold hands in his. He couldn't say the words he wanted to, not with everyone in the room, but he loved her too much to lose her. He lightly pressed his lips to her cheek, letting a tear slip onto her cheek.
The doctors moved forward, going to turn her life support off.
Golden eyes snapped open, and a pair of lungs screamed for air. You looked around the room at panicked and shocked eyes, looking at your face and body. No one looked away, almost if they thought you'd disappear. You opened your mouth to speak, but no words came out. Doctors rushed them out of the room, and you wanted to scream and shout. You felt like a ghost, like they had just witnessed your exorcism. The only face you couldn't see was Peter's, who had left the room just before you woke up.
