(song - Tears of an Angel by Ryandan)
Chapter 9 - First Funeral
The scene at the hospital was even more heptic. I was stunned and shocked at how many staff members actually worked here and were running around like hens who'd gotten their heads chopped off. It was chaos.
Anna and I entered the building right before one of the families of the injured busted in. The mother was sobbing and calling her poor child's name out while the father was trying to keep her from collapsing. My friend and I were shoved off to the side to give them room. One of the nurses helped the husband move his wife to a waiting chair before she collapsed. I was amazed that the father had been able to drive with his wife in that position.
It took me a while to understand that she was calling Ely's name. His name sounded just like her constant sobs. Anna and I were asked to leave if we weren't related or close friends to those who had been brought in. The nurse left us alone after Anna convinced her that we were both friends of Maddison.
The next family to file in was Trent's father. I was confused on why the mother hadn't come in until he starting yelling.
"WHERE IS THAT BOY! I'LL TEACH HIM A LESSON!!!!" His father cried out, shoving nurses and doctors aside like a mad man.
He slauntered around, trying to find out who would know where is son was. I thought he was drunk the way he moved around. This continued for a while until Dr.Cullen came down the hallway and took the man firmly by his shoulders. He forced him to stop waving his arms around and calm down. Almost instantly, Trent's father melted in the mans arms and started bawling. Anna and I were too shocked to look at each other.
Other families arrived after Trent's dad had pulled himself together and was somewhat composed. He sad down on the last of the three waiting seats next to Mr and Mrs. Harris. Sometime during the night, I don't know when, Dr.Cullen spotted me and came over.
"You're not feeling ill, are you?" He asked me worriedly.
I could see in his eyes that he was worried that my 'sickness' was acting up. I clearified him right away.
"No, no." I shook my head. He started to leave, but I stopped him."How is Maddison?" I asked.
Anna and I waited for the words that we'd come here to hear for a long time.
Dr.Cullen turned around and faced us. He must have seen the looks on our faces and saw that we were desperate."She's not doing well. She was on the side of the vehicle that rolled over the car." He said, then turned around again and left because a nurse called him.
Anna and I looked at each other for some time. She checked her phone and noticed that the time was one in the morning. We needed to get back before our folks started worrying about us too.
We left the hospital after forcing our way through the crowd to get out the door. I climbed in the passenger seat and buckled up as did Anna on the driver's seat side.
"Are you sure you can drive?" I asked her.
She nodded her head."I'm fine."
Anna started up the engine and took me home. When I opened up the door I was hugged by my aunt who had been staying up to wait for me.
"I was so afraid that I'd lost you!" She said into my shoulder where her head was resting. Her arms were wrapped around me and preventing me from escaping her grasp. My aunt Phelicia wasn't crying, but her voice was shaking from fear.
"No, Aunt Phelicia, I told you I went with Anna and Mickie." I told her while she continued to hold me."It was Trent Walker who crashed his suv along with Ely Harris, Maddison Davis, and Nerissa Tompson."
