Chapter 15 - Road Trip

Lilia

Thanks buddy that really helped me out, I mumbled the thought within my head, hoping Edward had caught that. The same exact moment the phone dial rang. Both of our heads darted towards its source, a small black machine hanging on the wall. We moved at the same time as if to grab it, but Alice got there before us. Her and her visions, I thought bitterly but not exactly angry at her. I'd been disappointed I hadn't gotten there first because whoever on the other side might have distracted me from my current distress, even if it had been a stolen cars salesmen.

"Hello?" Carlisle's voice buzzed through the phone as I listened in on the conversation.

"Yes, this is Alice." pixie hair replied before he could ask.

"Alice, is Lilia and Edward with you?" the doctor asked from the other end.

She stole a glance at us and looked back at the wall. "Yes." the corners of her lips went up in a faint smile, enjoying how impatient we were being. "What's wrong, Carlisle?" she asked out of courtesy.

"We've had some....interesting...visitors come. They've informed me that we only have six days, not thirteen as we previously thought." he broke the news to us.

"What?!" I spoke outloud. How was I suppose to come up with a plan in that much time? That was like asking a first grader to reach the top shelf in the kitchen cuboard.

"Calm down, Lilia." Edward tried to soothe me, my thoughts coming over loud and clear to him. "Keep listening." He ordered.

"....They've agreed to help us divert the problem under a couple of conditions, but I can't discuss those over the phone." Carlisle chatted away. "That's why I'd like you three to come back up to the house---by foot preferably. Human transportation won't carry you fast enough."

"Alright, we'll be there soon." Alice agreed. "See you then." she said her goodbye with cheer and hung the phone up with a click. She turned around and saw me with my arms crossed, a scowl on my face. "What?" she barked, unaware of why I was glaring at her.

"When were you going to tell us, exactly?" I inquired, pronouncing 'exactly' by its syllables. I switched my hands to my hips, waiting for an answer.

"I don't think I know what you're talking about." Alice murmured and looked at me with a confused expression.

"That we only had six days left." I explained myself, but that still didn't seem to click in her head. "Geez, Alice! I thought you were the future-seer here! You know, you look ahead to see that our deadline is closer than it appears!"

"Oh," She mouthed. "Well, I really didn't want a headache---and we would have found out eventually." she pointed out.

I raised and eyebrow at her. We both know eventually would have been too late to do anything. She admitted defeat by looking away.

"So, who called?" Tiernam happened to stroll into the living room.

"Another one of Lilia's vampire friends." Karissa answered before I could, walking in from the doorway that led to the kitchen. When I stared at her, she turned towards me. "I heard everything." She said smugly, doing her best to try and tick me off.

I only sighed and shook my head. " I didn't know you were suddenly into embracing your other side." I countered.

Instantly, I could see that I had struck a nerve. In order for her to hear the entire conversation, she would have had to use her enhanced hearing to listen in on the call. There was no way to hear anything the "human" way if you were spying from the other room. She frowned in anger and crossed her arms over her chest the very same way I had looked like moments earlier.
