Chapter 14

Maya's POV

It's been 3 days since we decided we were going camping this summer and Josh has been acting weird ever since. Secret text messages. Needing to abruptly leave when we're hanging out. Maybe he doesn't want to go anymore but doesn't know how to tell me? Maybe he's seeing someone? That last thought kinda hurts.

Ever since Riley and I stopped talking, Josh and I have been really close. He's barely left my side. We arent together officially. Stupid 3 year age gap. I'm 17 though. The age of consent is 17 in the state of New York. There's really nothing standing in our way. My phone buzzes and I grab it, just knowing it'll be him with another excuse as to why hes late.

BOING😍: We need to talk.

ME: I thought so...

BOING😍: It's not what you think gorgeous ❤

ME: when & where?

BOING😍: My apartment, 20 minutes?

ME: See you soon.

I shove my phone into my pocket and head out the door. I'm relieved that he said it's not what I think. I laugh quietly to myself as I realize how well hes gotten to know me over this last year. I make it to his apartment in record time. I take a deep breath and knock on the door.

When Josh opens it, he has a smile on his face. It's not his usual smile though. He looks... guilty? Just as I'm about to ask him what he's done, I see a tall brunette stand up and walk over to us.

"Hi Maya." She says, staring directly into my eyes. I turn my shocked face to look at Josh, who knows hes gonna hear about this.

"Damn it, Josh!! I said no!! Is this why you've been secretive lately!?!" I begin to go off on him. I'm so angry that he would set me up like this, but before I have a chance to say another word, he leans in and kisses me. Its sweet, but forceful. When he pulls back he takes my hand, pulling me inside and closing the door.

"Give her a chance?" He pleads with me. I nod and take a seat.
