Maya's POV
"Well, I'm starving" Riley says, hopping up from her spot at the bay window. She makes her way to the door, pulling it open before she pauses. "You want anything?" She asks over her shoulder. I shake my head, and so does Lucas. She shrugs and leaves the room, pulling the door closed in her wake.
"I mean, I guess I can think of one thing I want." Lucas says suggestively, moving across the room to sit on the bed with me. I roll my eyes at him and decide to play along but crush his ego at the same time.
"You and me both..." I trail off, watching his eyes fill with hope. I bite my lip, and continue. "I wonder what Josh is up to right now?" I question aloud. His expression faulters for a second before he leans into me.
"I'm sure its not nearly as interesting as this..." he whispers, and then I feel his lips on mine, for the second time in 24 hours. I start to back up, to pull away from him, but he reaches around, placing his hand on my head, holding me to him. This is wrong!!
I hear the door slam, and Lucas pulls away quickly. I'm left there, staring at my best friend, shock (for different reasons) written on both of our faces.
"GET OUT! GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! GET OUT OF MY LIFE! JUST GET OUT!!" Riley screams, tears pouring down her face. I stand up, ready to rush to her, to explain, to comfort her.
"Riles..." I say in a soft voice, tears filling my eyes, threatening to spill over.
"Both of you. Just please, please go." She pleads between sobs. I look at her for a moment longer, allowing my tears to spill from my eyes. I look to Lucas, standing next to me. He reaches out for me, mumbling something that sounds like 'let's go' as he places a hand on the small of my back. I immediately retreat.
"Don't touch me! Don't ever touch me again! You know what, don't ever look at me again!" I shout at him. I grab my phone off the bed and move quickly to the window, climbing out onto the fire escape.
I look back to steal one last look at my best friend. Lucas must have left through the door because hes gone. Riley's eyes meet mine, reflecting back to me the heartbreak we both feel right now. She comes to the window, closes it, locks it and draws the curtains closed.
