jaehyun fiddles with the small box in his right hand as he turns the corner, chewing on his lower lip nervously.

he isn't sure why he's so scared— after all, it's been eight years and taeyong hasn't shown any desire to leave the relationship. it's not like they haven't talked about it either; it's something taeyong's parents never fail to bring up when they meet for dinner.

taeyong loves him, jaehyun knows that for certain. he also knows that he loves taeyong more than anything, and wants to spend the rest of his life with him.

but he can't help but worry that taeyong will think it's too soon. after all, taeyong's only 24 and jaehyun himself is merely 22. yes, they've been together for eight wonderful years and yes, they both love each other more than anything in the world, but they are still quite young and have a lot of life to live.

jaehyun knows he'll never want anyone else but what if taeyong doesn't feel the same?

he runs out of time to think about it when he pulls into the parking lot of the restaurant. he slides the ring into his pocket and exits the vehicle, wiping his hands on his pants.

the (rather expensive) venue is almost completely packed, so he's thankful he made a reservation.

spotting his boyfriend across the room, he makes his way over and kisses him on the cheek. "hey baby," taeyong smiles. "i ordered you that wine you like, hope that's okay."

"it's perfect," jaehyun slides into his seat and brings the glass to his lips.

taeyong gazes at him adoringly, the corners of his lips tilting up.

"what is it?" jaehyun asks, meeting his eyes confidently.

"i'm very in love with you," taeyong replies. "and i missed you, you left so early this morning."

"you're cute," jaehyun smiles. "i had to get some things done for school then some very important errands to run."

"what kind of very important errands?" he asks with a playful grin.

"i'll tell you later."

taeyong nods, obviously dissatisfied with the answer or lack thereof. they order their food, casually talking about their days over the expensive meal and wine. the butterflies in jaehyun's stomach settle over time, mostly due to the thought completely escaping his mind.

that is, until he moves too jerkily and it tumbles out of his pocket.

he swears he's never moved faster than that moment. swiping the box of the ground and sliding it back into his jacket in a matter of seconds.

taeyong looks at him questioningly. "what was that?"

jaehyun is about to evade the question, but knows that it would just irritate is boyfriend. "well, i, uhm, i wanted to save this for a bit later, but seeing as i'm a total wreck and just fucking dropped it right in front of you-"

he takes the damned box out again and gets onto one knee, opening it carefully. "-will you marry me?"

taeyong's mouth falls open and he covers it with his left hand. "yes, oh my god!"

jaehyun grins and slides the ring onto his new fiancés finger. he stands up and is practically attacked by taeyong, who jumps into his arms and kisses him.

people around them clap politely, with a few whistles here and there. normally he would have blushed and hidden himself, but right now jaehyun couldn't care less. he's got the only person who matters in his arms, and he could not be happier.

he's getting married to the love of his life and that's all that matters.
