"Babe! You go Audrey! That's so cool! You get to be like, a giant tree!"

"Actually, Jake, uh, Audrey is the girl. And uh, the giant plant is called Audrey Two. But yeah! I get to be the lead!"

"That's so good babe!" Jake said, grabbing his girlfriend and spinning her around. She laughed loudly, and Jeremy couldn't help but look at the couple in pining way.

Jeremy took a deep breath when he saw Jake walk over to him, and he awkwardly made himself look smaller.

"Hey dude. Christine just told me that you're like, the lead dude or something? And I just wanted to tell you, uh..." Jake trailed off, trying to remember something. "Oh yeah! Break an arm!"

Jake started to walk away, and Jeremy couldn't help himself. "Wait! Uh, Jake?"

"Yeah man?"

"You uh, you aren't gonna like, beat me up over the kiss scene, right?"

"Uh, no? Why would I do that?" Jake asked, genuinely concerned. "Has someone done that to you before? I'll fight them."

"No, no, no, it's just, uh," Jeremy awkwardly rubbed his neck. "Just sometimes in the movies, the guy gets like, possessive over the girl, and uh, beats up the guy playing the lead, so uh. Yeah."

"Nah man. First of all, I know it's just a play. Second, even if Christine ends up falling in love with you, I know I can't stop her. Or you, from falling in love with her, because like, I mean, she's wonderful man." Both boys instinctively look over at the girl in question, who is dancing around the stage in glee.

Jake sighed. "Yeah. But, like seriously. I can't control her, only she can. So if she falls for you or something, I won't get angry. I promise." Jake winked and walked away chuckling to himself.

"So... your boyfriend..." Jeremy trailed off, not yet looking up from his script. "He seems really-"

"Like an airhead? Yeah, I know." Christine sighed, shutting her script. "Like, he's really sweet. And really kind and stuff, but... he's just... you know. Kinda... in the nicest way possible, dumb."

"I thought you liked Jake?"

"I do! I... did. But like, he isn't... like uh, he asked me what animal the pink panther was the other day, and... and I just can't, you know?"

"I mean, I'm kinda into it."

"And I was! It was so cute! But like, he doesn't know basic stuff, yet he's really smart? I don't know." Christine let out a loud noise, flopping onto her bed. "It's just. Ugh. Like I want to like him, but... I don't. Anymore."

"Hey, that's okay. It's okay to not like someone anymore."

"Yeah... but maybe I'll just save those emotions for later. Wanna practice Suddenly Seymour?"

———

"Seymour's your," they took a deep breath, holding each other tight. "Man!"

They went in for the kiss; Jeremy surprised Christine didn't do a stage kiss but he proceeded nonetheless.

Jeremy then realized the kiss went on longer than he would've thought for a normal kiss, but he didn't tap out until he literally couldn't breath. They both pulled back, panting and smiling in a love dazed at each other.

"Uh, I'm gonna go break up with Jake real quick."

"Yeah, that's probably important actually."
