Jeremy sat down on the couch, exhausted from the argument he'd just had with his 'best friend'.
"Overwhelmed?"
Jeremy's head shot up, surprised that the girl in front of him was talking to him. "Uh, Yeah, I uh, I guess yeah."
Mō bakagete iru?
Jeremy ignored the voice, believing that maybe, just maybe, he could try this on his own for once. "Uh, wanna like, uh, ditch? And like, grab ice cream or something?"
Christine smiled, and Jeremy instantly felt warmer. "Sure! But uh, Jake drove me here..."
"Oh. Shi-shoot. Brooke's mom drove me here." Jeremy pulled out his phone, searching quickly. "Oh uh, it's really not that far if you wanna walk or something. Or whatever."
"I'd love to, sir Hamlet." Christine said, taking Jeremy's hand and leading him to the door. "This party was... to much for me, darling." Her voice was now coated in a thick accent and Jeremy couldn't hide his chuckle.

"So... are you still dating Brooke?"
"Are you still dating Jake?" Jeremy asked in the same tone.
"Oh. I'm, well, I'm uh, I guess I never was really? Well, okay," Christine ran ahead of Jeremy, walking backwards to tell her story. "He's like, the perfect guy, you know? Sweet, smart, and into like all of these cool things and has a big house with no parents to bother us... it's like a dream, you know?" She looked down, shaking her head. "But like, that's not my dream. He's... too good. For me. It'll just... make me feel, weird I guess? I don't want to be myself around someone like that, and I'm afraid I'll change how I am. I don't want to do that."
Christine twirled around, jumping onto the sidewalk then back into the street. "I don't want to be the same. I want to be different. I'll feel like... like I've failed if I'm the same as everyone else."
"But... you aren't?" Jeremy's voice broke, so he tried again. "You uh, aren't. You're incredibly different and unique, and anyone would be lucky to not have you. But yeah, I guess if you're afraid he'll ruin your light then like, don't get with the fire extinguisher, you feel?"
Jeremy tried to ignore how bad his metaphor was by jumping into a puddle. He instantly realized his mistake. "Awe, oh gosh, uh, shit."
Christine let out a snort, bursting out into laughter. "Oh my god, you're so, oh my god you're dumb."
Jeremy's lopsided smile shone through, and Christine smiled back.
Jeremy bit his lip. "Uh, you can totally say no, and we can forget this ever happened, but uh, can I kiss you please?" He took another deep breath. "Because I'm in love with you, Christine.
Christines smile disappeared, then reappeared.
"So coax me, implore me
I promise you won't bore me
Oh, Jeremy, I might say yes". Christine sang, pulling Jeremy close. She pulled Jeremy down, and pecked him on the lips, smiling wide."Now," she said pulling away. "How about that ice cream?"
