Aurora's POV

I stole glimpses of Death as we sat side by side leaving a wide space between us as we quietly read our respective books.

"Yes?" Death's deep voice surprised me as I looked at him for a little to long.

"Not..nothing," I mumbled as my cheeks blazed.

I could have sworn, he was hiding a smile. He suddenly stood up and grabbed the book he gave me.

"Come, I want to show you something," he said patting the space close to her.

He opened the book to a page with a black page but as he touched the center, the blackness faded into words. He pointed to a bold subheading.

GRIM REAPERS

These are beings that assist Death in collecting the souls of the those who have passed on. Death who is able to be present in multiple places as one, no longer has to do so. As permitted by the Maker and Ruler of the Great Hereafter or he who humans call GOD, those souls who have committed grave sins and forgiveness is granted only through redemption are recruited into positions of the grim reapers.

Sins such as: 1)Murder or offenses against children, 2)grave injustices against animals, 3)the act of takings one's life, 4)the taking of multiple lives

These sins are recorded and judgement is passed on. The listing on who is to be recruited as Grim Reapers is sent from the Great Hereafter as the maker passes the ultimate judgement on this matter. These souls are reborn as Grim Reapers and can live as long as it takes too pay off his sin. They may exist as long as hundreds of years on Earth, in order to pay off for their sins. These persons' memory is erased and they remember nothing of their past lives. They are entrusted in collecting the souls, bringing them and ensuring that they take their respective path to the judgement.

"Wow, so these grim reapers sort of like work under you?" I asked intrigued as I peered down at the book in his hand.

"Yes, they help run the Mortem Realm," he sighed and looked ahead with a painful expression, "This is an innovative yet painful punishment for some."

He pointed at the next page which presented some information on these Grim Reapers.

Grim Reapers live their almost immortal lives like humans with the exception of being able to cloak their appearance at will, they possess some of the same abilities Death himself has yet they feel hunger and thirst as humans do. Much like Death, Grim reapers are without malice or hatred towards human beings as well as they are unable to feel the need to abuse their abilities to satisfy their own desires. However unlike Death, they are very much susceptible to emotions such as falling in love with a human or feeling humanly compassion. They are very much able to feel joy and anger but are bound by their duties as Grim Reapers. They have no choice when it come to their judgement, whether they want to or not, they become Grim Reapers.

"Wait," I stopped him abruptly, "Is Thans a Grim?"

Death simply nodded his head but offered no other explanation as to what caused Thans to become a Grim Reaper. Judging by his dismissive glare, it was probably best I did not ask.
