Ascella's POV
2 weeks passed and I was at my house with Shireen and Opal getting ready for Prom. I finished putting on my makeup and waited for them. I looked to the clock and saw we still had some hours to spare. Shireen went to me and started to do my hair, "You excited for tonight?"
"I think so." I murmured. Olly's and I's one year was last week and it was still on my mind...
The door opened and my dad walked in with Zara. I smiled and kissed Zara's cheek.
"You look so pretty!"
"Thank you, mi amor!" I kissed her cheek. Dad chuckled and looked at me, "You look gorgeous...just like your mom..."
I smiled and kissed his cheek, "Thank you." I leaned my head on his arm.

Opal turned to me from her mirror, "I wanna see the dress!"
Shireen smiled as she curled her hair, "Yeah! I wanna see it too!"
"I thought you had to wear your hijab?"
"My mom let it slide, I will wear it after I graduate."
"Okay! Gooooo, I wanna see it!"
I laughed and rushed upstairs. I bumped into mom as she left the bathroom, "Whoops! Sorry!"
She laughed and checked me out, "Wow, you look so beautiful! So grown!"
I hugged her, "thank you!"
"Hurry so I could take pictures of you and your friends!"
I nodded, "Dad and Zara are home too!" I walked into the room and changed.

Nick's POV
I was downstairs helping Opal braid her hair.
"How do you know how to do this, Mr. Amaro?"
"I would braid Ascella's hair all the time. I have pictures from a few occasions like her first day of school and her first middle school dance. I learned when I started fostering her." I smiled, remembering how she sat quietly as I braided her hair when she was a small girl. There were footsteps and Maria came down, looking at me for a moment. Zara went to her and hugged her before leading her to the couch where Shireen fixed her makeup. It hasn't been the same between Maria and I, and we aren't doing much to fix it... I bit my lip and finished Opal's hair before a voice came from the top of the stairs.
"Um...I'm coming down..."
We all waited, anticipated by how she would look.

I was speechless—even breathless—as I saw her walk down the stairs. She smiled gently and my heart just burst.
"God damn." I laughed, tears in my eyes. Ascella gasped and shook her head, "No, no, no! Don't cry, papa!" She grabbed my face and I leaned my forehead into hers. There were snaps and a flash, "Awww, you guys are so cute!" Opal cooed. Ascella turned her head and laughed and I kissed her cheek. We got a few great photos, before the doorbell rang.

Maria answered it and Charlie stood there with Shireen's date, Sinbad. Charlie took a moment, staring at Ascella.
"Holy fucking shit, Amaro!"
Ascella laughed and hugged him. He looked at her and checked her out again.
"Oliver Fucking Kingsley! That dog!" He grinned, "A legend." He grabbed her hand and twirled her around, Maria got a few pictures of them and took some of Shireen and Sinbad. I watched as Ascella smiled and laughed. They then got into the limo right outside the door.
"Stay safe!" Maria called out as we stood at the threshold. Ascella nodded and waved before getting in.
Later, I was sitting with Zara, caressing her hair and looking at the clock constantly.
"Nick, Ascella will be okay...you know that."
"Yeah...Yeah..." But it wasn't Ascella I was worried about. It was Charlie...he was a bit out of it. I've already let his drinking slide once, but if he's drunk again tonight: I won't hesitate to put him in cuffs. My phone started to buzz and I picked it up, seeing Cragen's caller ID.
"Hey, Cap, what's up?"
"Sorry to call you so late, new case, you need to get down here."
"On it." I got up and kissed Zara's head, then went to Maria, "Text me when Ascella's home..."
She nodded and kissed my cheek. I sighed and drove to the precinct.

Ascella's POV
I sat at the table as Opal and Shireen danced with their dates. Charlie disappeared halfway through dinner and it's started to worry me. I got up and went to look for Charlie.
"Charlie?" I turned down a hall.
"Ascella?" A voice came from behind me. I jumped slightly and turned to see Paulo.
"Paulo...hey." I pushed some hair back behind my ear. He smiled weakly, "You look...so good."
I laughed, "Thanks, you don't look so bad."
"Look, I'm sorry. I was—what I did was bad. Horrible."
I shook my head, "Paulo...it's okay. I promise. It's over..."
"I'm sorry about Olly, too. He...was what I should've been."
"Paulo...look at me," I went to him, "Don't punish yourself...it's done. It's over."
He nodded and smiled, cupping my cheek before placing a kiss on my lips.

Before it continued, I was pulled away and Charlie had Paulo up against the wall.
"Charlie!"
"Stay away from her!"
"Get off of me man!"
"Charlie, he wasn't doing anything!"
I pulled them apart, but Charlie pushed me away, into the wall. He and Paulo started to fight. I hadn't realised it, but blood dripped from my nose and mouth.
"Stop it! Get off of him!"
Some of the staff and Paulo's friends rushed over and tried to stop them.
"Ascella?!" Shireen rushed over and cupped my face. She and Opal, along with Sinbad, rushed me out of the venue and to a car. Before we left, cop cars arrived, I knew where the nearest precinct was...
"Let's go." Sinbad murmured.

Nick's POV
I sat down at my desk, looking over files on our new cases.
"Hey, there was a fight nearby, they have to keep them up here cuz it's getting full."
We all nodded. It was getting loud when they brought them in, but I then realised that they were all dressed up.
"These kids are from Ascella's school. Their prom was nearby..."
I pulled out my phone, but I heard my name being called. Ascella was walking in with Opal and Shireen, blood dripping from her nose.
"Jesus...What happened?!" I sat her down and gave her a handkerchief to stop the bleeding.
"It was Charlie and Paulo...we don't know what really happened..." Opal looked to Shireen and Sinbad. I looked to Ascella, but she was quiet.
"Which one?"
"Accident..." she murmured.
"Ascella-"
"Just an accident..."
"We'll take her home, Mr. Amaro..." Shireen insisted, causing me to hesitate. Eventually, I nodded. Opal wrapped an arm around Ascella's waist and they walked out.

"Why do people like hurting that girl so much?" Liv whispered.
