Ascella's POV
I walked into the suite, coming back from the funeral, and threw all the photos of Olly and I, breaking their beautiful frames. I let out scream of anger—no, of spite and loathing. Of hate. I hated myself for everything. For being in his life, for making him love me. Charlie wrapped his arms around me and we sank to the floor together. He dug his face into my hair and I sobbed my eyes out again. He whispered into my hair, but I didn't bother listening to what he said. I was blind with hate and regret and self-pity to care about anything but Olly. He lifted me up and carried me down where Liv and my dad waited. He placed me in the back seat of the car and caressed my cheek.
"I'll see you during Christmas..." he whispered, kissing my head. Dad slipped in next to me and wrapped his arms around me as Liv and Amanda sat in the front.

Everyone was quiet during the ride and the only sounds that resonate through the car were my sobs. I entered the house, my legs being caught in a hug by Zara. Munch, Fin, and Cragen were sitting at the table, and they gave a small wave. I looked away and Dad took Zara. Everyone was silent, the squad sat at the table and I sat alone at the couch. Liv brought me some water and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"I heard your scream, your throat must hurt..." she whispered. I managed to nod and took the glass, taking small sips. Everyone talked softly and made little conversation. I got up to refill the glass, but I put it on the counter and felt more tears coming.

I quickly wiped them away as arms wrapped around me

I quickly wiped them away as arms wrapped around me. I knew it was my dad, but he said nothing and placed his head on my shoulder. Music was softly playing and we swayed with it.
"Wow, so Nick doesn't have two left feet." Munch managed to joke. I smiled weakly as dad turned me around and we danced in the kitchen. I let out a sigh and laid my head on my dad's shoulder.
"Did I do something wrong?"
"No...you didn't do anything wrong."
"Nash...he's lost everything. Olly was the only family he had left..."
"Sh...Ascella, sh..." he murmured, placing a hand on the back of my neck as we swayed. His lips made contact with my forehead.
"I wish I at least had a chance to say good-"

There was a knock on the door and Liv opened it.
"Nash..."
"Is Ascella here?"
"Yeah, come in."
I pulled away from Dad and looked to see Nash, still in his black suit. He had stubble growing, must've forgot to shave once Olly got in the hospital.
"Nash..."
"Ascella."
"What is it?"
"I was swinging by the cabin...found this. Looks like a gift. I had to give it to you now because I'm going to Switzerland for the holidays..."
I nodded and took the box before setting it down and hugging him.
"I'm so sorry..."
He stayed quiet and hugged me closer. We pulled apart, "If you want to keep the car, you can."
I laughed, "Do I actually have a choice?"
"No, Olly would just give it to you." He stepped out of the house, "Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday, Ascella..."
"Merry Christmas, Nash..."
"Feel free to go to the suite or the cabin anytime. Might need help watching over it anyway."
I nodded and waved to him as he was driven away. Zara grabbed my hand and I went inside with her.

~Christmas Day~
I woke up to Zara jumping on my bed.
"Ascella! Wake up! Wake up! Feliz navidad!"
I laughed and got up, catching her in my arms and squeezing her tight.
"Feliz navidad!!" I kissed all over her face. We rushed downstairs and dad was already up making breakfast. We nearly tackled him as he set plates down for us.
"Merry Christmas, daddy!" Zara laughed. He grinned and kissed our heads. We are quickly before opening presents. I watched as Zara opened hers, waiting patiently. There was a sudden knock at the door and Dad opened it. Charlie walked in with big bags and the squad trailed in after him. Sadly, Cragem couldn't make it due to some work stuff.
"Hey, guys! I'll make some coffee and cocoa!" Dad announced, walking back to the kitchen.
"I'll go help Nick with that." Amanda offered, following him. I sat at the table, keeping to myself and thinking before a hand hooked my chin, making me look up. Charlie smiled and caressed my cheek, "Merry Christmas..."
"Merry Christmas..."  I whispered.
"Ella! You open yours!" Zara exclaimed. I laughed, "Alright."
Fin gave me his first. I opened it and gasped, "Oh my god! Is this—holy-"
"Language!" I heard dad from the kitchen. I hugged Fin and Munch offered his next.
"It's not much, but I thought you'd like it."
I opened it to find a book about visual and performing art. I couldn't help but smile, "Thank you so much."
Amanda gave me a box with a bracelet and Liv got me a book and wrote a letter.
"Read that later..." she whispered. I nodded and Charlie sighed. He had a laptop and opened it, "This...is from Olly. And other stuff, but watch..."

I nodded and tried to mentally prepare myself for what I was going to see. Olly's face popped up and he smiled.
"So, it is roughly 5 weeks before Christmas and Ascella's birthday. I had the idea to make this because I could be really bad with words most of the time, especially with my girlfriend because she never ceases to take my breath away. Anyway...Ascella...Ella...Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday. Even if they're not in the same day," He laughed and scratched the back of his neck, "I hadn't really planned what I was gonna say, I'm speaking from the heart. I love you. Jesus, I love you. But you name isn't Jesus..." I laughed and bit my lip, holding back tears, "You are the love of my life and I can't express how much I love you. You have changed me and many others for the better and I can't be more grateful. I know...life hasn't been good recently, but seeing you fight everyday gives me so much hope for humanity. Honestly, you're so...so luminous. In everything you do. You make me speechless and I've never felt so lucky in my whole life. Now, I'm gonna tell you a small story..." He sat back and cleared his throat, "I was at school, and I was helping a few kids with a project for a freshmen Health class. They had to test people, connected to a monitor. They were keeping track of heart rates and finding reactions to certain things. I'm telling you this because one of your gifts might not make so much sense if I don't. I was connected and they asked me crazy questions. And then their last question was, "What makes your heart beat?" People who were previously tested said something scientific, health related, or dumb. However...the first thing that came out of my mouth was your name...and they were quiet for a moment. I thought I said something wrong, but they told me that was the only time my heart rate spiked. God I sound cheesy, but you do. You do make my heart beat and-and I dunno, I'm rambling now...The things you do even when you're not with me, Ella. I...I'm in love with you...I know that sounds crazy, but i am and I can't wait to tell you that everyday and every time i see you...Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday." He winked and the video stopped. I wiped my eyes and face and Charlie placed something front of me.
"This...is the chart they gave Olly..." It had vital signs, but only one part was circled to emphasise where his heart beat spiked. I smiled and blurted, "Can I get this tattooed or something?"
My dad laughed, "Yeah, you're almost 18 anyway...blackmail Cragen into doing it."
I chuckled and nodded, looking at it, "I hate...how he makes me fall in love with him all over again..."
"And he got this..." Charlie held up a necklace that had Olly's name engraved on it in his handwriting. I let out a happy sob and put it on.

"Oh god...why am I crying on Christmas?" I groaned, but dad snickered, "It's not over yet. I have mine still."
He put in a different DVD, "Close your eyes." I did so and heard a guitar strumming. It was my favorite song...
"When the rain is blowing in your face..." I immediately started to bawl. Dad kissed my head and I opened my eyes to see my mom playing and singing.
"And the whole world is on your case...I will offer you a warm embrace...to make you feel my Love..." Dad came into the frame, obviously holding the camera, and kissed her cheek. After it finished, I hugged him and huffed.
"No more crying, please?" I pouted. Dad nodded and we went back to enjoying Christmas.
