Ascella's POV
I walked to the campus cafeteria, consumed in my thoughts. I hadn't realized a security vehicle was trailing by me until it's horn honk lightly. I stopped and turned, the window of the car rolling down, revealing Enzo.
"Looks like your lunch break. Wanna grab a bite?"
I nodded and got in the car. We drove until we were a little ways off campus. He parked in front of a sandwich shoppe and turned to me, "What are you in the mood for? Rubin? Gryo? BLT?"
I smiled and shook my head, "Just a turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles on sourdough."
"Sauce?"
"Mayo and honey mustard."
"Be right back, gorgeous." He got out of the car and went in. It took only 10 minutes before he was out and back in the car. We drove back to campus and found nice spot under a tree in the courtyard grass. He had a blanket and everything.
"Wow, you're really prepared." I smiled, unwrapping my sandwich. He nodded and took a bite from his sandwich. We ate quietly, but he finished before me.
"What's wrong?"
"Hm?" I responded with a mouthful before swallowing it down.
"You're quiet today. What's up?"
I placed my sandwich down and wiped my mouth, "Nothing. I-it's Nothing."
"Is it about that guy? The one who stood you up?"
I let out a short laugh and turned away from him, "He's a contributing factor..."
"What else?"
"Um...I had a boyfriend in high school. One of our first unofficial dates was having sandwiches. But we were in a precinct, not a college campus." I laughed weakly, "Just...hits a little hard..."
"Did he break your heart?"
"No...his heart stopped..."
"Meaning?" He wasn't catching on.
"He...he died.."
"Oh..."
there was an awkward silence. I sighed and fixed myself, "Thanks for the lunch...I'll-I'll see you later." I got up and walked away.
"Hey! Hey, hold on!" He got in front of me, "I'm sorry-"
"No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't've said anything."
"Ascella..." He grasped my shoulders, "It's Okay. I had a feeling you'd be in a shit mood after yesterday and hoped this would make you feel better."
"It does. I swear it does. I'm sorry, I'm so dramatic."
He chuckled and led me back to the blanket, "Just relax...this heat is gonna go away by the end of the month, let's soak it up.."
I nodded and laid back, looking up at the leaves above our heads, sunlight seeping through them. Enzo had his head propped up on his hand and he admired me.
"Have you noticed how pretty you are?"
"It seems you've noticed more often than I have..." I murmured, looking at him. His hand found my face and caressed my jawline before hooking my chin.
"Can I...?"
I leaned towards him and he kissed me gently. He smiled gently into the kiss and held my waist. I pulled away, feeling a large amount of guilt build in me. He looked at me and brushed my hair away from my face.
"Can I take you out tonight?"
"Sure." I smiled.Rafael's POV
I sat at home, drinking my 4th glass of whiskey. My phone started to ring and I looked at it.Liv: Up for an afternoon drink?
I huffed before grabbing my coat and meeting her at a bar nearby. Amaro and Amanda were there with Fin playing pool. I sat next to Liv and ordered some brandy.
"Looks like you already started."
I laughed and downed my drink, "Had a reason to..."
"What happened? Broke up with someone?"
"You could day that, Amaro."
"Didn't know you were dating someone."
"On and off." I murmured, drinking more.
"They nice?"
"She's great. Exquisite even."
"Where'd you meet?"
"A coffee shop."
"What's her name?"
"That's too personal, sorry."
"We're here as friends, Barba." Liv smiled. I sighed and looked at my cup, "Nichole."
"She hot?"
"That's for me to know and you guys to never find out." I smirked.Enzo's POV
I caressed Ascella's thigh as we drove off. I pulled up to a simple restaurant and parked. Ascella held my hand as we walked in and sat at a table. She looked through the menu, humming. I couldn't help but sneak glances at her before she placed her menu down and looked at me, "Enzo, how old are you?"
I placed the menu down also, "22."
She nodded, "Do you have any family?"
"My parents are art traders. They travel a lot."
"What made you want to do security?"
"I'm...actually apart of Brooklyn PD..."
"What happened?"
"I was suspended for a year...busted a drug house run by teens and the case was too personal for me..."
She nodded, "You...used to do that?"
"Yeah, it wasn't until my friend died when I was 17."
She smiled weakly and drank some water.
"What about you? What made you want to study law?"
"My mom was killed when I was little and her trial became a mistrial and her case was never closed...the man that killed her kidnapped me and my case was never closed because he was killed. I feel like he should've been behind bars a long time ago..."
"I'm sorry."
"My dad's a detective and I wanted to go into his field, but he doesn't want me to, so I'm gonna be a lawyer."
I nodded and we ate, chatting and laughing.I drove up to her house and we sat in the car quietly. She turned to me and smiled, "Thank you."
"It's no problem." I looked down at my lap before smiling and looking at her. She unbuckled her belt and kept her gaze to me. I grabbed her face and kissed her deeply, making her hold my arm. I tried to pull away but she kissed me more.
"God, you're amazing." I murmured. She laughed and pulled away, letting her hair out of her ponytail.
"Thank you for tonight. Wanna come in for a drink?"
"I feel like I'll be the only one drinking."
She smiled and got out the car, "Cmon."
I followed and locked my car, before going up her steps. She unlocked the door and turned on the lights.
"Hm...thought my dad would be home." She murmured, walked to the kitchen, and looked in the fridge. I sat at the table and waited, watching her as she waded through the kitchen. She then turned to me sheepishly.
"My dad doesn't really drink alcohol, so it's bare right now."
I chuckled, "Don't worry, just sit with me."
Ascella made her way to the table and sat next to me.
"Tell me about your mom." I entwined my fingers in her hair. She smiled and her hand found its way to my lap, gliding them gently up and down.
"My mom was...beautiful...I always aim to be just like her. She was kind to everyone, and very strong..."
"You're like that too."
"I guess...I don't think I could ever live up to her. She was beyond perfect..."
"Why was she murdered?"
"The man she married...my stepfather. He was abusive and sadistic...a real icon." She whispered, a scared tone in her voice. I cupped her face, "You don't have to talk about him..."
She looked at me and smiled gently, "My dad...he found me. The day my mom died. And he took me home."
"He's your real dad?"
"Yeah..."
"He must love you very much."
"He does. And I love him. I stayed here for college to be with him. My stepmom and he separated. She took my younger sister down to DC. I didn't want to leave him after that."
"Where were you gonna go?"
"Harvard University."
"Wow."
"Yeah..."
"Do you regret it?"
"It comes to mind, but goes away quick."
I nodded and admired her. She kissed me quickly, as if she needed my touch.
"Where's your room?" I panted. She led me up the stairs and into her room, made out heavily and laid us on the bed. I pulled away and looked at her, "Are you sure?"
"Yeah." She reached into her side table drawer and pulled out a condom. I smiled and dipped my head down into her neck, ravishing it.
