Nutmeg woke to the sound of screeching. Startling Storm beside her. The two rushed out to the barn to find Scout an.. id Daisy leading six kittens one by one jumping from the high beam onto the big pile of hay down below.

"Scout!" Nutmeg snarled. Seven heads popped from the hay in unison. Nutmeg counted them.
Daisy, Thunder, Shadow, Walnut, Blizzard, River, Leaf. But no Scout.
Her mate Storm cleared his throat, his amber eyes burning. Finally appearing behind Daisy, Scout rose from the hay in cowardice.

"How many times do I have to tell you, Scout? Don't let the kits play on the high beam, someone can get hurt." She reasoned.

"What's going on?" Said a tired voice. It was Jay. At the sight of their stepfather, Blizzard, River and Leaf shrank back. "We are in so much trouble." Muttered Blizzard. His siblings nodded in agreement.

Jay gave Storm and Nutmeg an inquisitive look. "They were playing on the high beam again?" They nodded. Jay then looked at the kits all in turn. "So Nut, what do you suggest we do to punish this naughty kittens?"

"How does cleaning up the stalls for the next six days sound?" Storm suggested. Smirking.
"Ew gross!" The kittens exclaimed.
"I think it is perfect." Jay agreed. Smiling.
"Alright, all of you get to work!" Nutmeg ordered.
They watched at the kits scrambled out muttering sending Scout dark looks.

Once they left, Jay, Storm and her burst into laughter.
Ah, kits.
The trio left the barn and went off to their separate ways.
Nutmeg in the shade of the house watched cats from the alleys interacting with the farm cats.
Kits play carefree in the field while their mothers watch close by, grooming each other.
Over the hill, she saw a patrol of cats returning with a mouthful of prey.
Among them is her mother, from distance she could see her grey pelt thick and her eyes shining with health despite her old age.
Behind her she saw her brother Patches and Violet, their tails intertwined.
Now, this is the life we were meant to have.

Nearby in the field, a cat covered in mud snaked through the tall corn stalks. At last, he came to a clearing. In the middle were a house and a barn. On the grass, he saw kittens play and mothers watching them as they groomed. Using his good amber eye he saw her, the ginger cat responsible for his leader's death.

A memory flashed before his eyes.

"Shard!" He thundered. His voice echoed the abandoned train station. Grabbing the attention of the small silver tabby before him.
She whirled around. "What do you want from me Klaw?" She snapped.
"Traitor." He hissed.
"Call me whatever you like, Klaw but what's done is done. You can't change the past." She spoke. She turned to leave, he stopped her by pinning her tail down.
Shard growled. "Let me go." She demanded.
"You are just going to let Frost die in vain? Where is your loyalty?"
"My loyalty belongs to my conscience.
Frost's death was accidental. Nutmeg did not kill him, therefore he doesn't need to be avenged. Now let go or you will regret it."
Klaw slid out his claws and sank them into her shoulder. She let out a yelp as the tom shoved her to the floor.
He hissed into her ear.
"A true follower of Frost would take up the mantle of leader and take his vengeance on his enemies."
Shard winced and twisted herself under him to free herself of his iron grip.
"Yeah right, you and what army?" Shard laughed. "You'll never be able to on your own."
He sank his claws deeper. She hissed in pain.
"I'll prove it to you, I will avenge Frost and Nutmeg and her cats will only be blood and bone when I'm done with them."
"I'll stop you." She managed to say through gritted teeth.
It was Klaw's turn to laugh. He ripped his claws out, sinking his fangs into her scruff he tossed her against the wall.
Shard wheezed and looked up at the tom weakly as he grinned at her. "You make me laugh Shard, what chance do you have against me?"

The tom blinked the memory away and focused on his task.
Sliding out his claws he let out a soft growl.
"I'm coming for you Nutmeg. There is nowhere for you to hide from me."

Just wanted to include the little bonus.
Unsure if I will follow up on it but it was a part of the plan I had 5 years ago.
