Jay POV
I was coming back from a meeting when I noticed Peper in the corner. Her shoulders sagged with grief.
Of course, she had lost her entire family.
He wanted to try lift up her spirts but he knew it was hopeless. Even he felt like a failure. Nutmeg made me promise to look after them." You need a walk." Said Violet. The purple eyed she cat walked over and sat beside me. We sat at the entrance watching the traffic on the road.
"It will clear your head." She said. I nudged her shoulder. "Thanks sis."
"Just be careful out there." She said as I bounded down the stairs.I went straight for the park next door.
A fresh snowfall covered any prints that were there yesterday. I sniffed the air, in search for prey. I knew there wasn't a chance especially in this season, but I had to get my mind distracted.
I slipped into a hunters crouch and kept my ears alert. The park was empty. But do knew there were places where prey liked to hide. I just had to look for them.
One paw after the other, I stalked.
I went around the benches and the trees. Stuck my head in the bushes, and jumped onto garbage to scan the area. No movement.I prepared myself to jump when A familar scent tickled my nose.
It was slightly rustic but I recognised that sweet loving scent anywhere. Heart pounding in my chest. I followed it and came to s bush. It was super strong. Could it really? Gulping I went around to see no one there.
My hopes crashed, I hung my head and sat down.
"She isn't here." Just my mind playing on me. I muttered." Who isn't here?" Said a familiar voice. I spun around to face the one cat I had hope to see.
"Nutmeg?" I meowed in astonishment.
It sure was. The she cat's ginger fur was longer and matted than usual. Her tail was bushy and there were scars over her body; but her eyes her forest green eyes were still sparkling with life. Just like I always known.
"Hi Jay."
I rushed to her and buried my nose in her stingy fur. "Oh Nutmeg, you have no I idea how I missed you."I purred. I felt her do the same."I missed you too."
A small head rubbed against my leg. I glanced down in surprise.
"Scout?" I exclaimed. The dark kitten I knew had grown and was almost half my size. "Jay!" I laughed. "I missed you too buddy." I say."Hey Jay, " said another cat. It was a tom with multicolored fur. I gasp in surprise.
"Patches? Is that you?" The tom nodded. My ears twitched. This was the same kitten who I used to play with. The same kitten who worked Frost. The same kitten who ranaway. Now he stood before me as an adult cat, his amber eyes staring at me. I smiled.
"Welcome back Patches." I say. He blinked in surprise.
" You're not mad?"
"Just glad you're back."I looked up to see that my friends were not alone.
"Jay, I like you to meet my friends from the farmlands. " Nutmeg introduced. "They decided to help us fight Frost."
The first one was a dark brown tabby tom. He dipped his head in greetings.
"Hello, my name is Storm. I'm the leaders of these cats." He said, indicating to the four cats behind him and said their names.
There was a dark ginger tom named Dusty, a golden kitten names Daisy, a black and white tom named Spot, and a silver tabby she cat named Ivy." You all came to help?" I say.
Storm nodded.
My face brightened.
" Well then let's go home, we have much to discuss."................................................. ...................
Nutmeg POVHome. It was so good to be home.
That tingling feeling of happiness that the journey was over. But I knew it had just begun.I walked inside the dim lighting of the shelter. Once my eyes adjusted I saw skinny cats look up from their groups to us. One cat with shaggy grey fur looked at me in surprise.
"Nutmeg?" I heard her whisper.
"Hi Mama." My mother Peper rushes I over and gave me a lick and nuzzled my cheek.
" Oh Nutmeg, you're back!"
" I'm back too!" Meowed Scout. She pulled the dark kitten close and licked him on the forehead.
" You went with your sister?" The kitten starred at his paws.
"Sorry that I didn't tell you. I just didn't want her to be alone." She gave him another lick.
"I'm just glad you are back.
Patches came out from behind me to face his mother. This brought a gasp from other cats.
