Nutmeg POV

It was when the sky was clear, and the winter air wasn't as cold and when Storm got better when I prepared myself to go.

The house was full of unhappy meows at the news. Petal gave me a an encouraging smile, her eyes glistened with tears. "Be careful out there." She said, muzzling my shoulder. I nodded. "I'll be back, don't worry."

Across the room I spotted my brothers saying goodbye. Scout to Daisy. the bright ginger had a crestfallen face. "But I want to go!" Storm who just walked by gave her a stern but kind look. "Your mother won't allow it." He reminded her. The ginger she cat pouted. Scout gave her a playful nudge. "It isn't like I'll be gone forever Daisy." He reassured her. She stared at her paws. "Yeah I guess so." When Storm came over I noticed there were a group of cats following him.

"Storm, I'm sorry I can't stay." His amber eyes shone with warmth.

"Don't worry about it, I know how much this means to you."
I smiled.
"That's why I want to come with you."

"You want to come with me?"

"Me and couple of us."

"You don't need to."

"By the sound of it you need help." It would be nice to have a bit of help.

"I can't take you away from your cats, they need you." Petal walked over.

"Its okay Nutmeg, I'll  be the leader when he's gone.  After giving it much thought I nodded.

"Okay, so who's coming?"

A number of cats came up. They were Patches, Scout, Storm. and the new cats were Dusty, Spot and Ivy.

I looked at them.
" You all know that where we are going isn't safe." They noded.
" We understand the risk Nutmeg."
I let out a soft purr.
" Well then let's go!"

We said our goodbyes and with me in the lead we headed back to the mountain we came.

It took us a couple of days to reach the peak but once we did we set up camp for the night.

"I hope we don't run into any wolves." I heard Scout meow.
" You and me both."

It was when the night had settled in when I, on watch duty heard a rustle in the near by bush.

I sprung to my feet and slid out my claws.
"Storm, wake up!" I hissed. The dark brown tabby raised his sleepy head from the other side of the camp with s look of confusion on his face. When he noticed my fur raised and the rustle he matched my stance.

I sniffed the air. The smell of mud and forest leaves masked
the true scent. Making it even more dangerous.
Storm spoke.
" We are going to jump in the count of three."
"One."
"Two."
"Three!" We sprang and pinned down a familiar kitten with golden fur.
"Daisy?!" Storm and I exclaimed.
"Daisy?" Said Scout. The dark brown kitten walked over with his tail high in the air. By now the rest of them were awake.
" Oh Nut can we please let her stay?"
"I scowled at him.
" No she can't stay!
"Why not?"
"Because it's dangerous for a kitten."
"I'm here aren't I?"
"You're different. You know how dangerous the alleys can be, she does not." Scout frowned. I continued."Besides, the only reason you're here because you followed me."

I turned to Storm as the rest greeted the kitten.
" What are we going to do with her?"
" We can't send her back."
" But we can't keep her either."
After talking we came to a decision and approached the group. Storm glared at the kitten.

" You really put us in a tight spot, Daisy."
" Sorry  Storm."
"And after I told you no." She stared at her paws.
" But, we can't send you back, so you can stay."
She perked up.
"Really?"
" Just this once" She let out a purr.
" Oh thank you!"

We settled down for the rest of the night, with Storm on watch. I snuggled beside my brothers in the middle of the clearing, our body heat kept us warm against the snow underneath us. I fell asleep watching Scout and Daisy curl up beside me.

Though I my eyes were heavy with exhaustion, i never felt more alive.

  We were going home.
