It was midday when I was woken from my quick nap in the shadows behind a dumpster.
Not my ideal place to sleep, but I had to or my friends and family might find me and drag me back.

Once I stretched myself out I continued on my journey.

I walked in the shadows and kept my distance away from other people, dogs and cats.
I was about to make a turn when I notice something with the corner of my eye.

My heart stopped in its tracks.

For in a cornered alley was no one but my baby brother Scout, cornered by two of cats from Frost gang. A red cat and a black cat with 3 scars on their faces. I recognized the red cat as Blaze and the other black cat Blake. Both cats seemed frustrated with their pelts rising.

"Now I'm gonna ask you one more time, why are you looking for Nutmeg?" Blake growled.
Scout flattened his ears and hissed.
"I'm not gonna tell you! Why can't you just leave me alone?!"

I let out a growl, sliding out my claws I stormed over. "Hey! What's going on here?" I demanded.

Blake and Blaze turned around, giving Scout a chance to escape.
Blaze growled and bunched his hind legs to spring at us but Blake stopped him and whispered in his ear. Immediately Blaze dropped back.
Letting Blake approach us first.

I sent Scout to hide behind me.

"Funny meeting you here Nutmeg. Arent you a little bit too far from home?" Blake sneered.

I stared at him.
Oh, so this is how he wants to play, probe me until I spill.

*I am still within borders Blake, can't say the same for you."
Blake grinned. "So you do remember me."
I rolled my eyes.
"Of course you mouse brain, I have to know my enemy."

"So do I, now tell me kindly why are you so far away from home and why does this kit look for you?"

Scout squirmed behind me.

I smiled.
"We are off to see a friend and he got a bit lost on the way. You know how kits are, they get distracted easily."
Blake studied my face and then relaxed.

"Very well, have fun." And the cat turned and left with Blaze on his tail.

Just as they left I grabbed Scout by the scruff and found a quiet place to yell at him.

"What were you thinking? Leaving the shelter to find me? Do you even know how dangerous the city is for a kitten who has not been trained?"

Scout fluffed up angrily.
"What was I thinking? What were you thinking?! Mom is panicking, Jay's upset. Everyone is angry at you accusing you, it is just horrible."

"Left because what I am doing is important and that I can live with that pain. What about you? What are you doing?" I say.

"I came to join you, no cat should be alone.

I stared at him.
"Are you serious?"

"And I want to be on an adventure."
He added.

"Now that's something I can believe."

"So can I join you?"
"No, you are going back home.". Scout let out a whine. " But why? I wanna go!"
I picked him up by the scuff.
"You are too inexperienced and you will only slow me down," I say through his fur.

"I'll just come back and follow you." He pointed out.

I stopped.
He does have a point.

I let out a sigh and put him down.
"Okay fine, you can join me,"
"Yes!" Scout cheered. The dark brown kitten pounced on me and knocked me down.

I glared up at him.
"However, you have to do exactly as I tell you. We will be leaving the city and I don't know what dangers there might be out there, so I need your full corporation, got it?" Scout nodded eagerly.

"Good, now let's get some food." I decided. We searched around and I hunted some mice. After close examination it was okay to eat and we devoured our meal.

"So Nut, Where are we going?" Scout asked me
"The Farmlands."
"Is it far?"
"Yes, very far."

Scout then looked at me strangely.
"Can you tell me something? Though you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, if you don't want to that's fine-"
"What is it Scout?" I asked my brother, slightly annoyed.
"Why is Jay upset?"
Not this question! Why of all things he had to ask this question?
I inwardly groaned.

"Well," I started blushing feeling embosse.
"I guess because I left him behind."
I said. Staying clear from what really happened.
He's too young to understand love.

Was it love?
Lust?
Romance?

I found myself wondering.

I shook my head to clear my thoughts.

"Come on let's go." I muttered.
I need to forget about it and focus on the present. I decided.
I looked over to the kit bouncing along beside me.

For his sake.
Or I'll never forgive myself.
