Wowowowowowow an asylum AU, I love those

Alex ran down the halls, gripping the knife handle in hand. He finally managed to convince one particular member of the staff to be left alone for long enough to free himself. He grinned as his own success and kept running, his bare feet hitting the floor with each step.

He thought it would be easy, the voices said it would be easy. He trusted them more than he did Thomas at this point. Somehow he found himself being chased by none other than Thomas.

He betrayed you.

He left you here to suffer.

He said it would be fine.

He lied to you.

He said you would be safe.

He didn't realize he had gotten himself cornered, or the fact that there were tears streaking down his cheeks. Thomas had his hands on his head, unsure of what Alex would do if he tried to pursue any closer.

To Thomas, Alex had been a random person. Happy one minute, scared for his life the next. He could handle that, but what he couldn't handle was when Alex started having serious mood swings that were too extreme to be normal.

Alex would always be paranoid and anxious. At one point he even avoided Thomas saying "The voices don't trust you" Thomas wished he could've taken that more seriously back then before it got more severe.

Thomas risked it and took a step closer, which caused Alex to let out a quiet sob and start to shake violently.

Another step.

Another one.

Thomas froze in place when Alex put a shaky yet somehow confident hand holding the knife to his neck.

"How could you Thomas.." Alex whispered, sobbing even more with a angry yet determined look. "I trusted you...I trusted you to protect me..."

Thomas frowned. "I was trying to do what was best for yo-"

"What was best for me?!" Alex screeched, cutting Thomas off. "Ever since I've been here, life has been hell. No one wanted to talk to me, I always hear them say how I'm a disappointment and that I'll never be fixed and you want to tell me you did what was best for me?!" Alex lowered the knife and stared at Thomas with a broken look. Oh how Thomas had missed Alex's beautiful blue-violet eyes, they had held all the love they could, but now they were dull and distant in a sense. He was breathing heavily and still had tears streaking his face.

"Lexi I-"

"Don't call me that. You don't deserve it" Alex snapped, gripping another thing in his other hand.

"I didn't have to get this job you know? I only got it because I wanted to be there for you Lexi!" Thomas yelled in an angry tone.

Alex's eyes widened in fear and he slid down to the ground, curling into a ball and sobbing once more.

Thomas blinked in realization and ran over to Alex's side, attempting to hug him. He was only met with a shove away. "S-stay away from me...Im just a monster, crazy, psychotic.." He muttered every name he had heard the other nurses say to him.

Eventually Alex looked up at Thomas, smiling. That damn smile Thomas fell for. "I'm sorry for everything...you won't have to deal with me ever again, I promise" Alex slid something in Thomas' hand.

"Lexi? Lexi what do you mean?"

Alex laughed a broken laugh as he leaned on Thomas, kissing his chin before his eyes drifted shut, his head slumping forward.

Thomas frowned and shook Alex. No response.

"Lexi..?" Thomas went silent and tried to listen for any breathing from Alex. None. "Lexi c'mon, this better not be a joke" Thomas started to panic.

No pulse, no heartbeat, nothing. Thomas looked in his hand. The wedding ring from years back. Years before Alex broke. Years when there was still happiness. Those times when life was better. The ring was covered in blood. Alex's blood.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be enough for you"

Thomas sobbed quietly over Alex's limp body, a prominent stab wound where his heart was.
