The backyard of Saundra and James house is the best place to shift. They have a tall fence around their backyard that protects us from peering eyes. No one can know our secret because we don't want to end up in a lab like the original pack was. So mostly I just shift while visiting the pack on the weekend but that's ok because Aunt Lucy and I have fun at home even without shifting. Aunt Ciri is one of the few non shifters that know about us and she likes to join us when we play board games at the kitchen table at home.
It's nice being able to just be back here. Annie seems to be worried about what's going on inside but tries not to show it as we play in the yard. I can hear Raven up at the top of the tree in the far corner of the yard. I look up at her and in her dark black feathers, I see a strain of the aqua blue that her hair is.
Eventually, we get Annie to go up to the branch she is on. With her being a snake she is able to get up there with a little work. The rest of us decide to give them space and go on the swings I rock paper scissors with Logan for the tire swing and win. Logan and Alice have a competition to see who could get the highest first.
After about ten minutes of Annie being up there with Raven, she came back down without her. Alice asked Annie what happened and Alice started to explain.
"I went up there and after shifting back to human we started talking. I decided not to go right at the elephant in the room but instead just introduced myself and the family. I explained that everyone but Theo is a shifter out of the kids. The adults it's a bit more complicated." She told us. "First I started with Saundra and how she came to know and then explained Ambers brother Cole and who he is and everything then Ciri but I left it to you Amethyst to explain your mom or not just cause I figure you would rather do it."
I nodded in a thank you. My mom had died when I was only a few weeks old due to post-labor complications. My dad was left to raise me by himself before his twin and twins girlfriend moved in to help. I miss her a lot but my dad is always happy to tell me stories about her.
We were outside for about half an hour before Skylar, Theo, and Olivia were sent out. Skylar asked if we knew where Raven was and quickly flew up after her. (10/30/18)
