The moonlight streamed through the guest bedroom window. The light pooled at my feet. However, that was not the reason I had woken up tonight. There was a loud yelling from downstairs. I got up off of the old trundle bed that Uncle Jake and Aunt Saundra had made for me. My dad had the weekend shift and Lucy was called into the hospital after a train was knocked off the tracks. Ciri had brought me here before falling asleep on the couch in the living room. She just finished a project at her work where she had to stay up for 22 hours.
I figured it was Uncle Jake fighting with Olivia about her missing her curfew. Again. I sat up and felt my way to the door. Walking down the hall to the bathroom I heard something. It was a woman's voice. Her voice was distinct. A strong voice from a strong woman. Distracted from my goal of the bathroom I made my way to the stairs.
"Like hell, you think I'm gonna calm down! I get a call at two in the morning telling me my baby brother was seen being walked into a van at gunpoint! My baby brother!" The woman yells.
"Autumn. I need you to just listen to me." Apollo yells. Autumn continued to yell.
"Shut up Autumn. You are not the only one who got that call. Both of my children. My nieces and nephews." Uncle Jake yells. Autumn went quiet. A small whimper made its way upstairs. I peeked around the corner down the stairs. It was Aunt Red.
"I am sorry. You guys are taking this much better than I. Likely because of our childhoods but-" Autumn started.
"No." Uncle Matt interrupts.
"What?"
"No." Matt continues. "You do not get to say that. You do not get to talk about what happened...."
Auntie Amber grabs his hand. The memories rush into his head. I've been told the stories. Most kids get happy stories about how their parents met. Not us. The phone rang. Saundra grabbed it.

Ciri said I should stay with her and the other kids. Go back to sleep. She said my dad would be furious if he knew I was going to a police station at four in the morning. I said she couldn't stop me. Willow said she would watch out for me. It was strange walking into a police department in my pajamas. Uncle Jake walked in like he did it every day.
"We are looking for a group of kids last names Arena, Jones, or Frost." Aunt Saundra asked the front desk.
"Oh yeah." the man said. "Of course these are your kids."
I wonder what he meant. I was quickly distracted from the thought though as Autumn started crying again. These tears were different. Ace sprinted out of his chair into Autumn's arms and I understood why Autumn cried again. She was relieved, happy, that her brother was safe. Raven repetitively told her mother that she was fine.
"Wait, Skylar? Where is Skylar?" Aunt Amber asked no one in particular. Matt held his daughter in his arms and kissed the top of her head.
"And Theo," Jake said with his hand on Saundra's shoulder as she hugged Olivia. (1/15/19)
