I woke up the next day fairly early. It must have been just after daybreak, the world out sky was bright but still. Then the details of last night fell back into my brain. Suddenly the world no longer seemed peaceful. Now I wanted to search every inch of the ocean for a single boat that held my older cousins. I walked over to the backpack that I brought for what I thought was going to be a quick visit with the people I love, but now know will be more than just that.
After I got dressed I went downstairs to find Aunt Saundra drinking coffee sleepily. My father would be here soon to help find Theo and Skylar. He doesn't have work this week and was going to spend it with me but will now be using the time to find them. Uncle Jake was finishing his shift at work and has found people to cover for him for the next couple of days. He won't even be on-call, neither will Aunt Saundra. Auntie Lucy will be helping take their shifts so won't be able to be much help but is giving up her time to give her brother and sister the ability to find their kids. Uncle Matt didn't have a session till Wednesday so that gave him at least three days of fully devoting himself to finding his daughter and nephew. Red needed a break to get around her writing block so was at a good point to help and Willow didn't have any trials to prepare for. The only person who needed to go to work the next day was uncle Apollo and that was with us kids.
Saundra and her in-depth explanation of what was happening was interrupted by Aunt Amber coming through the door. "So I called Cole and informed him on what was going on. He was ready to come down before I finished my sentence. He is leaving soon and will be here probably in two hours or so."
Matt walked through the door slowly. As if he was walking through water. The three of us looked over at him. He seemed zombie-like. Ambers face formed a weird half-smile. Saundra told me to stand on the other side of the table. Upstairs Aunt Willow nightmare screamed. Uncle Matt fell to his knees. Amber joined him on the ground and hugged him.
"Shhh... It's ok. You did really well." Amber hugged him. It was one of the only times I have seen his scars so much. Not the physical ones. All of the adults in the pack have those. I mean his emotional ones. It's because My dad and I live a bit of a distance away and I don't get to see them as much as the rest of the pack.
"Thank you, Amber," Matt said to her. Matt took a deep breath and they both stood up. "Sorry, Amethyst."
I smiled at him. Not knowing what to say. Jake and Willow came down the stairs. Amber explained that it was likely Willow's nightmare that brought Matt back. I guess it was something that would scare most people because I found Ace and Autumn panicked in the office room of the Arenas house.
"So it still affects them? That much?" Ace asked.
"Has Apollo not had a nightmare since you got here?" I asked him. He shook his head as we walked back into the kitchen. At that point, everyone was there. Likely having woken up by Willow but not unnecessarily because we had work to do. We had to find Skylar and Theo.
Before they have nightmares. (2/5/19)
