So Sam stood up to Ryan for Peyton. Similar to how Theo stood up to him for me. Similar to how my mom stood up to Seth for Aunt Red. I guess it what you do for the people you care about. You stand up to the people who are holding you kidnapped. I know. Totally relatable.

While we were having our tests done Theo wouldn't leave my side. Literally, he was never farther than an arm's length away. It was nice. I was in new territory. And none of it my own. It was nice to know I wasn't alone. By the end of all the tests, I was exhausted. I sat down just straight on the floor.

"Here you go." Six handed us each a glass of water.

"Thank you," I said taking the water from her.

"Can we go back now?" May asked.

"Not yet." Six told her.

"I can take you a few at a time."  a woman said. So May, Eli, and Alex left. And then later Peyton and Sam left. So Theo and I were left alone again.

"Sky?" He asked.

"Yeah, Theo?" I answered.

"Your dad?" he asked.

"What about him?" I asked.

"How did he do it?"

"I don't know. I am always amazed when he comes back." I tell him.

"What about your mom? How does she do it?" He asked.

"The same way we all do it. She loves him."

Theo looked at me for a long time. He saw every part of me. I smiled at him. It wasn't uncomfortable. I wasn't scared. And for a moment I forgot we had been kidnapped and were stuck on a boat. For a moment I was home. Just for a moment.

"Alright, your turn. Come on." A woman said. I was pulled back. Back to the boat. Back to earth. I nodded and followed the woman. Theo followed me.

Back in the haul, we were. May, Peyton, and I were gathering something together for dinner. We had spent more time on tests than I had realized. May made some rice and Peyton cooked the chicken. I steamed the broccoli and we were ready. I was walking up that old, metal, spiral, staircase when I heard it.

"So what's the deal with you and Sky?" Sam asked. "Do you like her?"

"What! There is no deal." Theo said.

"Oh, you so like her!" I heard Eli say.

"Shhhh! She will hear you!" Theo said. I smiled and could feel myself blush. "Fine! I like her ok! But she will never see me the same way. I will always be her cousin in her brain."

"Boys! Dinner!" I told them.

After dinner, I volunteered Theo and myself to clean up. The old dishwasher had apparently broken years ago. I was washing the pan Peyton had used for the chicken when it came out.

"I like you too," I told him without looking up. I felt him wrap his arms around me and rest his chin on my shoulder.

I closed my eyes and I was home. (2/13/19)
