Skylar's P.O.V.
Training has been worse than what I thought possible. It wasn't that the runts were hard to train, but the entire pack has no knowledge of fighting. I mean, sure the warriors know a little about self defence but that's about it.
For a pack this big I am utterly shocked that they haven't thought about possible self defensive or attack classes. It really is a shame. In all honesty, I don't even know how they've grown this big without being attacked. It was probably their aggressive looks because without them, the pack would have been annihilated at any other time.
Today, I'm walking them through the importance of self defence and pack link.
"Always have your guard up when you are alone." Everyone's eyes glued on me as I spoke. "It will help you predict what is unpredictable." Just as the words leave my mouth, Kota leaps from behind me, attempting to pin me to the ground but I side step just in time. Her body hits the ground, hard, but she just dusts herself of as if nothing happened.
Some of the younger wolves are in aw and mentally taking notes of all that I'm saying while the older folks just watch and try to mimic my actions.
"Also, if you are in trouble don't be afraid to call for help. Pack link is a great way to do that. Remember only we can hear each other, so it helps with stealth as well." I stop my pacing and turn towards the crowd of over one hundred.
"Alright. Pair up with some one that's roughly the same as you physically. You will give it your all and try not to hold back. The point of today is protecting yourselves. Now go!"
There was no hesitation. Everyone immediately shot up and began sparing. Walking around, I found that most were giving their all, trying to attack and protect at the same time. Even the pups were taking training seriously. Becky and her brothers were paired together and she was fighting the both of them and dodging their advances.
'Impressive.' My wild chimes and I smile.
After about an hour, I call for a brief break and everyone slumps to the ground from exhaustion. Some have blood splatters on their arms and face while other show no indication of pain at all. A medic races from person to person, making sure they can go on.
I had the chef bring out refreshments and congratulated each person on their hard efforts.
Havana walks up to me, her hair in a messy bun, and hugs me. Her mango and pineapple scent mixed with sweat and earth made my wolf go wild.
"How are you holding up?" I ask, pulling away from her slightly to get a good look at her. She's covered in scratches and it's hard for me not to go after the asshole how did it. I know it's only practice but she's MY mate and no one has the right to lay their hands on her.
"Eh. I'm getting a good work out though. I kinda suck at all this." She says, giving a small smile and I smile in return, pecking her on the lips.
"It's okay. You don't have to be great at this because I'll always protect you. It's my job." She flushes pink and pulls me into a tight hug.
"Sky?" I turn my head, looking at one of the runts of the pack, Claire.
"What's up?" She looks uncomfortable and I look down, seeing Havana glaring at her. I chuckle lightly and free myself from Havanas hold.
"Hey babe, why don't you go eat. The next session starts soon. You need all the energy you can get." Her glare leaves Claire and lands on me. She backs away slowly, stilling glaring at me.
'Don't do ANYTHING.' She says through our link and I shiver at the thought of her being mad at me.
I turn back to Claire, seeing her relax a bit.
"So, what's up?" I question again, finding her shy gaze.
"Can you spar with me? I know that you're basically an Alpha and I'm an runt, but I want to get better. I--"
"Of course I'll help." I said with a smile. "But I won't go easy."
She still lit up from my answer and quickly went back to her fight area. Carli, her partner, has a chance to relax.
"Alright! Everyone! Back to your spots and begin!" I shout and glance over at a jealous Havana, still glaring at me. I send her a wink and her hard glare crumbles and her loving smile resurfaces.
I walk over to Claire, who has readied herself and instantly begin. As promised, I give her everything and she can't handle it. After about a minute she falls to the ground, defeated. Immediately, she hops back up and charges back at me, only to be knocked back down.
Time and time again she was knocked on her ass but she never gave up. She lasted a minute longer before she was unable to get up. She is bruised and bloody but she is proud. Her trembling arms try lifting up her small body but I stop her.
"Come on. Practice has been over for hours now. We can finish with practice tomorrow. I promise." I say as I lift her body and begin walking towards the medical wing of the pack house.
"How'd i do?" She asks, her eyes barely opening.
"Great. You did great." I say and I mean it. With every defeat she got stronger. Her endurance picked up, in the slightest, and her tenacity was unbreakable.
I lay her down on an empty gurney and a nurse come in with a first aid kit and tends to her wounds.
I walk out and find Havana leaning on the door framing looking tired as ever.
"How is she?" She asks through a yawn, wiping her tired eyes.
"She's fine. Just needs a little rest." I say, walking towards her, scooping her up with no problem. She snuggles into me and is out in an instant.
