"Onee-san. Can you pass me the ball?" Picking up the volleyball, you threw it back to the little boy who was waiting impatiently for it, judging by his annoyed expression and body posture. During the weekends, you enjoy volunteering at a volleyball club designed for grade schoolers, since you were quite good at volleyball yourself. Plus, you got to witness Coach Ukai's skills and teaching first hand.
However, one day while you were signing in for the job, from the corner of your eye, you saw a certain orange-haired walk pass you, looking familiarly excited. Your eyes widened in surprised.
"Hinata-kun?" You accidentally said out loud, not realising how loud you actually were. Hinata turned towards you in perplexity but soon wore a bright smile before running towards you.
"(F/N)-chan!" He proceeded to give you a hug which you gladly accepted. "I haven't seen you since middle school...what are you doing here?" He held on to your hands without any hints of letting go, still shining that smile of his that you deeply missed. "Are you also inspired by Coach Ukai?" His eyes shone in anticipation. You nodded, playfully rustling your hands through his hair.
"Yep. I'm just helping out during my free time."
"Whoa, That's great. Especially since you're such an amazing spiker." You couldn't help but blush at that comment. You led him to the backyard where all the other kids were busy with blocking practice. After Coach Ukai introduced himself, you watched everyone practice their sets and spikes but your eyes always shifted towards Hinata as you watched him jump higher and higher.
During middle school, you helped Hinata polish his volleyball skills since he wasn't in a club and you felt bad, watching him practice by himself, so you often tossed him some sets after the girls' practice. As the days passed by, you ended up falling in love with him but as soon as you figured out your feelings, your parents had a job opportunity far away which resulting in you moving away from Hinata before you could confess to him. You thought that your feelings for him had died, knowing it couldn't happen.
But things like that can't be erased so quickly.
"SHRIMPY! YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR ARMS STRAIGHT WHEN BLOCKING"
"YES SIR." Hinata shouted back with same amount of compassion and continued with the drills with other children. His dedication truly amazed you. Ever since middle school, you never met someone like his kind and it interested you deeply.
As Hinata was about to jump to spike the incoming toss, you shouted as loud as you can.
"HINATA-KUN. YOU CAN DO IT." You cheered excitedly. Hinata became startled and missed the toss, falling on to his knees with full force. You ran towards him, feeling kind of guilty. "You okay? I'm so sorry."
"No no it's fine, I was just surprised."
You looked down and saw that his knee was currently grazed and bleeding.
"(F/N), take him to the medical room while we continue with the drills" You nodded at the head coach and leaned hinata on to you, making your way to the medical room. Once you were there, you set him down on the bed and proceeded to get him an ice pack before gently placing it on his wound. Hinata flinched as you placed the cold onto the surface of the graze, making you worry even more.
"I know it hurts but please bare with me. " You pressed on to to wound more. "Does that feel better?"
"Kind of." You noticed that his face was was flushed and that was when you realised how close to his face you were. Your cheeks grew scarlet as you proceeded to back away but he quickly grabbed on to your wrist.
"Don't."
"Hinata-kun..." The silence beckoned in the air while you two continued staring at each other, loving the closeness. "Hinata, there's something I always wanted to tell you and even though it's kind of pointless to say now but ... I love you Hinata Shouyou. Ever since middle school, I loved you and I still do now." You looked away, feeling very embarrassed that you confessed at a time like this. However, you felt a hand on your chin, tilting you and soft lips pressed onto yours. Your eyes widened.
Hinata was kissing you. You could tell he wasn't very experienced due to the clumsiness of the kiss but you kissed back either away; superficial things like that weren't your concern anymore.
The male pulled back and smiled.
"I felt like that as well." He finally hugged you and held your hand."So does this mean that we're dating now?"
"Looks like it...So..." Hinata led you towards the door and turned back.
"Will my girlfriend be willing enough to throw me some tossed to spike?"
