(A/N): Hey everyone! I decided to write a silly sweet oneshot with Hinata because I haven't used him in any of my stories yet and I thought he would fit perfectly with this story concept. I hope you like it
"(F/N). Are you awake?"
The room was in a black tranquility that could immediately make someone daze out and sleep but for some odd reason Hinata just couldn't. He's been awake for the past 2 hours and he hasn't been able to close his eyes at all other than blinking.
He thought that eventually fall to a deep slumber but waiting for that to happen deemed to be quite lonesome.
"(F/N) is offline right now. Please call back during service hours." He heard you mumble into your pillow, groaning before resting his head on your shoulder, shaking you about.
"(F/N)..." You reluctantly shot open your eyes, gritting your teeth.
"Hinata. What is it?"
"I can't sleep." He grumbled in an embarrassed tone of voice, avoiding all sorts of eye contact with you.
"Well did you try closing your eyes?"
Confused, he scrunched up his face. "Well yeah ..." He said, wondering what the point of that question was.
"There's a bunch of books downstairs. Maybe you can read to sleep." You suggested, pulling the soft blanket back over your shoulders, secluding you in comfortable warmth.
"But most of your books are romance novels."
"Good. Then it will make you fall asleep quicker." Was the last thing he heard before you fell back to sleep, ignoring the complaints he was sprouting out a few seconds after.
Knowing there was nothing else that he could think of, he popped out of bed and slid down stairs and into the living room. Rubbing his chin, Hinata scanned the bookshelf full of the different books you read. He casually grab the book from the bottom shelf and flicked through the pages.
"I guess this will do."
Meanwhile, you were still in bed, resting in the layers of duvet that surrounded you in sweet solace. You were having trouble sleeping ever since Hinata woke you up but as soon as you felt a force pulling on your eyelids, you heard a roaring clank from the kitchen.
"You've got to be kidding me." Pushing the blankets off, you sluggishly walked down stairs and into the kitchen as it was the room where the light was turned on. Opening the door you found yourself face to face with an orange haired juggling all sorts of utensils such as whisk and a mini blender, making you question what in tarnation was he planning to cook.
You gave him an antagonising stare.
"Sorry (F/N). Did I wake you?"
"Oh no. I'm just doing my usual sleepwalking routine"
He laughed nervously at your tired sarcasm, noticing how agitated you were also.
"I thought I should make a warm cup of milk to make me sleep quicker."
"And you were going to fry it?" You pointed at the burnt frying pan that Hinata was holding but then laughed quietly to yourself after seeing his expression turn perplex. "What happened to reading?"
He grew silent.
"Hinata. I'm tired and cranky. The most you can do is answer my question."
The silence beckoned more in the dimly lit kitchen.
"I too got into it." He grabbed the book he was reading and shook at you, to jog your memory.
You raised your eyebrow. "What?"
"I got into one of the books. I mean you tell me why does Hiro stay with Ryan if he has already cheated on him 5 times in a row. How does that make any sense?"
You were having trouble to understand what was going on. "Maybe he's scared of change... Hinata it's 2am. Don't ask me right now because a few seconds ago, I thought you were talking about real people."
"Right. Sorry." He set the book down, turning to face you who was still trying to figure out what happened in the book he read.
"How about you go back to bed and I'll make you some malted milk. Does that sound like a plan?"
"Yeah." You kissed his nose, pushing him out the door before instructing again to go back to the bedroom.
Hearing him run up the stairs, you grabbed a mug, poured in some milk and placed it into the microwave. You then dropped in two spoons of the malt before creating a tornado in the cup due to your excessive stirring ; the pale milk gradually turned into a beautiful chestnut colour.
"Perfect." Carefully, after turning off the lights, you climbed upstairs, trying not to spill anything on the carpeted floor. You opened the bedroom door with your foot and saw your boyfriend gazing into space like usual as if he was thinking something important due to the serious look he wore.
"Here. Be careful it's still hot. Try not to burn your fingers." Watching him take small sips of the milk, you gently sat back down on the bed, resting your back on headboard like he was doing. " Has there been anything that's bothering you lately?"
He started to hesitate. "Umm no. Why?"
"Well maybe you can't sleep because there's consistent thought that keeps reappearing so if there is, please talk to me. I want to help you."
Hinata saw the smile crawl on to your face. It was genuine.
"Do you think I'll ever become a national-class ace?" Hinata asked you with a slight insecure tone of voice.
"Well if you try hard enough, then yeah. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to." Your answer was honest and he appreciated that. He pulled the blanket up to cover you both for warmth and security.
"I know that but lately I feel like I'm not improving as much as I would like to. Kageyama learns so many new skills and tosses to make spiking easier for me. I mean you've seen him. Running around, jumping high or even setting a toss from the other side of the court just to make things easier."
"But you don't want that. You want to work harder for those tosses?" You finished his sentence as you were quite confident in what he was about to say.
"Yeah. To make myself ...stronger."
"And have you talked to Kageyama about this?"
He shook his head in shame. "He would probably call me a dumbass again."
"Not probably. He will" Hinata flinched at how deadpanned you were when saying that. "But a setter orchestrates the offence. A control tower. That means they would cater to the spiker's needs so they could succeed more, right? I think even if you told him and he doesn't completely agree, you guys can still work on it together."
"You really think so?" Hinata's eyes began to filled with hope.
You nodded. "You might not think it but Kageyama sees a lot of potential in you. I mean why else would he try so hard for you and your team?"
Hinata was taken back from your words.
"So please don't worry okay?" You flicked the light switch off and pulled your boyfriend into your warmth, caressing his hair slowly as you felt his breathing slow down. You sensed his body finally relaxing as his head slid on to your chest; a slight snore resonating in the silence.
"You're going to be an amazing ace."
I dropped in a Friends reference. I couldn't help myself!
