The air was thick with the aroma of coffee as the barristers were busy away making cute designs with their crafty fingers; one would have a leaf or a heart while others just looked like homemade coffee. Kageyama was busy taking in the scent of steamed coffee beans, sitting at the metallic table on his own and looked out the window. Ever since his fight with Hinata, he came to the local cafe, ordered a milkshake and just thought to himself.
What if things happened differently?
What if he wasn't so oppressive and was open to other people's ideas?
Would none of this occurred?
He played with the straw of the milkshake, swirling it around to create a spiral pattern on the foamy surface. What was he doing wrong here? He was completely bewildered as he stared at the shine of his table.
"Hey...are you okay over there?" A young girl, probably in late teens approached the male hastily, startling him once she placed her hand on his shoulder. "You're staring into space?" Kageyama saw she gave him a tender smile. She wore a waitress uniform and had a pencil tucked behind her left ear. He tried to shoo her away by avoiding contact but that just made the girl more curious.
"Your milkshake will get warm if you don't drink it fast."
Kageyama still didn't dare to look her in the eyes but he did pick up the glass and followed her instruction, sucking on the straw until all of the milk disappeared. He set his glass down, beginning to pack away but the girl stopped him.
"You know you'll feel better if you speak out."
"I'm pretty sure you don't want to hear about my problems." The girl furrowed her eyebrows.
"Try me." She gleamed confidence that took Kageyama off balance. He sighed in defeat knowing he couldn't win and sat back down as the girl waited for him to speak.
"Well... I umm...Well you see..." The boy stuttered, held his chin and gazed at his feet, trying to form the right sentence. "Have you umm... I got in a fight ...well more of an argument with my partner recently."
"Partner? Like relationship-wise?" The boy furiously shook his head at the (H/C)- haired girl.
"No No As in my volleyball partner." The boy waved his hands frantically infront him. "We haven't been cooperating well recently and it's affecting our team's morale. He wants to try something different while I think it's better to stick with what's currently working. I'm just wondering what I'm doing wrong." He mumbled that last bit but she soon realised what he said.
"I'm not very good at this kind of thing." was the last thing he said before he ran his fingers through his hair in frustration, pulling back his fringe so that the girl could see his whole face clearly.
"Then don't rush into it." He removed his hand from his hair and looked at her in interest. " Honestly, it's not your fault from what you've told me at least. Maybe ... I don't know ...start with one person and try to compel with this partner's needs as well as keeping your own ideas. Then slowly move on to the rest of the team. That way you can fix things at your own pace."
Kageyama stared at the girl in surprise. Was it really that simple?
"Though what would I know. It's not like I'm some sort of intellectual adviser. I barely got into college. I shouldn't be giving advise to high-schoolers..."
"You're a college student?" Kageyama asked.
"Yep, just started this year and I can tell you now if I could go back to high school, I'll do it in a heartbeat. I mean, I have to work now just to pay off my loans." She grinned, grabbing the Kageyama's glass and placing it on her tray. "I'm (Y/N) by the way."
