The night had ended unexpectedly horrible and sooner than later, my cousins left. I was all alone in my room pondering on what to do.
I took a leap of faith and opened the door, dragging myself with faux confidence as I approached my mother.
I pushed open her room door, letting it slam against the wall. Offence #1. Walking up to my mother who was just sitting on the bed, zoned out with this pathetic look on her face.
"What the hell mum?" Offense #2, Her head snapped to my direction, her face clouded with frustration and confusion. "What?" I pressed my lips into a straight line. "Why would you stupidly accuse dad of such. He would never, so I'm telling you now, never in your life-"
The sound of skin to skin echoed through the house. Snapping out of my fantasy, I shook my head. No Way. That was a stupid idea and thank the lord I thought it out before doing anything.
I had come up with so many scenarios where I'd either face my mum or dad and they all ended up horribly.
This had to be a misunderstanding, my daddy was nothing like that. He was sweet and caring to my mum and very respectful.
While my mum was more fierce and strict. They were like polar opposites, negative and positive, left and right, Up and Down, X and O, Black and- I should stop there.
My dad was basically a simple man, he had a very good job that brought a lot of money. He never acted on impulse or do stupid things. Risks were not in his dictionary, he was a complete nice guy, a gentleman.
My mum on the other hand, she was wild, adventureous. She acted without a single thought, she hardly ever cared. But she was really strict unlike my dad. She was the lion he succeeded to tame.
That's what was suprising, how different people could get married and have a kid. And still malfunction ably. But this was a sign, after an hour of thinking, I belive my parents might be coming to a realization, that maybe, just maybe, their marriage is mistake.
No, no, no. What am I thinking? Obviously not, that can't happen! If my parents are no more, what will happen to me, my life would be hell. That would be a disaster.
As I layed on my yellow covered bed, I itched with curiousity. I wanted to know it all, what was going on and what could have been the cause. The ringing from beside me, snapped me out of my thoughts.
My phone (Infinix hot 6) was releasing Raba Baba by The Gratitudes into the silent air. I picked it up quickly as to not disturb my parents, slamming the phone onto my ear, I quietly answered.
"Hello?" The person on the other side answered Immediately, "Hello Kolupo, it's me Jenifer." She yelled into the phone and I was sure, my mum was listening.
I rolled my eyes and whispered into the phone. "Jenifer, what do you want?" It took her a few seconds of silence to remember, "Em...what's the page for the maths homework?"
Math Home work? I'd completely forgotten the Maths Homework. "Page 112 Exercise 6a, Number 1-6," I recited it as I'd formerly learned, so I wouldn't forget. "Ah ahn, its too much naw."
Once again I rolled my eyes, I was not in the mood for this. "-We even robots that we'll be-" I cut her off, when I realized she wouldn't be stopping soon. "I have to go and do somthing, later, byee." I happily clicked on the bright red button and dropped my phone.
I had homework, wow. Nothing better to kill my already dead spirit. Taking my phone once again, I opened up Messenger, I scrolled through a few texts before stopping on Kenny B. Who was that?
Kenny: Helooo?
Kenny: Girl How far now?
Now I realized it was Kenneth, seeing our previous chat.
Kenny: Kolupo naa!
Kenny: Abeg get out, snob queen.
Kenny: Keep on snubbing, Rubbish.
I was furious. Bluntly stating, I was angry as hell was hot. You see, I had this problem where I hated being called A liar, A thief or A snub. I hated it from the core of my soul, and for some reason I still couldn't pin point.
Then I also had this problem where I angry text someone. Its kind of politely raining insults in a kinf of way and thats exactly what I did.
Kolupo: Excuse you? What the hell is your problem, how dare you call me a snub, I'm sure half of your friends are worse than what I believe a snub would be. Just because I didn't have time to come online and read your messages, does not mean you have the right to label me a SNUB. I am not a snub and I ask that you watch your words more often than you'vr ever done. Good day.
Once I had sent the message, I let out this sigh of relief, until I saw it. In the middle of my rant, I had made a typo in the 'you've', which was massively embarassing. After all my yapping, I just had to have made a mistake.
Groaning loudly, I had spread on the bed. Taking up all the space with my out stretched arms and legs. This day was probably cursed to not go right. I seriously felt like poop at the moment.
As the seconds passed, I found myself going over all the details of every thing that occured, I started coming up with 'what if' scinarios. What if I had talked to Daniel? Would Mercy get angry? What if I hadn't come home? Would the fight had happened? What if Daniel had at least done something to acknowledge me? Would I have reacted at all? What if Kenneth was just joking? Was I being too harsh? And most of all, What if I truely am a snub?
With a sigh, I shut my eyes. I started a silent prayer. I thanked God for my life and my day, then I asked for wisdom in all problems, I asked him to explain to me, what was going on. I asked the lord to help me. Then I ended it. I still kept my eyes shut, I still layed still on my bed.
I didn't want to move, I didn't want anything to happen. Why? Because I was scared, I was scared of things becoming worse. I wished the night would never end and I could stay in bed all day. But I knew better, after all, God would want me to face my fears and that was exactly what I would do.
