"Are they watching us?"
"Yes na. I know what I'm doing."
"I was just making sure."
"Whatever."
I glared at Daniel as he rolled his eyes at me but still lightly twidling our fingers on the table. I could feel Joseph's eyes burning into the side of my face as Daniel pretend to whisper something into my ear. Lord please don't let a naval officer catch us.
"Ss2's go to the hall o! It's commandants order!"
My head whipped in the direction of our class door as I noticed a student quickly retreating as the ones in the class piled out. I adjusted my uniform as I got up, letting go of Danny's hand in the process.
Once I was done, he quickly attempted to link our hands again to which I resisted. I was not getting punished for his actions. Funny enough, I'd gotten used to the boyfriend girlfriend thing much too fast.
Before, I didn't like touching people, I still don't, Danny is just an acception. And I always felt weird talking to boys but now, it's not so hard due to the boys that now always flock around both of us.
Once we got into the hall, I forced us to occupy a seat beside the windows. So our school hall was quite big, big enough to contain atleast two thousand students. The seats were made out of hard wood, long benches that 10 people could fit onto with an equally long table in front. Then there were 5 rows of these tables, starting from the front of the hall to the back. Not to forget the large podium or stage as they called it, that was situated in front. Armed with a staircase at each side and full bars to keep students from falling off the sides.
There were atleast 8 windows on the left and right sides of the hall each while the back had 2 doors near eachother, but having a small wall gap between. The other doors were at the front, near the stage. One on the left wall, the other on the right wall. Yes, 4 doors.
The walls were painted blue and white, the schools colours, then there were speakers on each side, so everyone could hear clearly. Even though we never did. And that was NNSS Ojo's school hall.
I was too busy looking out the window at the Ss1 class opposite us to notice the people filling up our seat and by the time I did look, we were almost filled up. Beside me was Daniel and on his side was Mercy, followed by Ebuka then Emeka then Stephanie then Aliyu and Oreva.
This was a quite odd combination, Steph usually hung out with Siri kids, Oreva and Aliyu were Ekun boys, Emeka and Ebuka were another case in general, in fact the only thing normal was Mercy. "Mercy!" I called, leaning lightly towards the face of my boyfriend.
She snapped her head in my direction as if she'd been waiting for my call and rose her eyebrows to say, 'Yes?'. "Swap with Daniel." Then there was a scoff right after my request. My boyfriend proceeded to fold his arms across his chest and lean over and onto the table, resting from his peck upwards onto the table and blocking Mercy's way.
Jerk. But never fear, my cousin was a bigger jerk. Danny howled in pain as Mercy kicked him in the shin, under the table causing his immediate rise. "Idiat. It's my way you want to block bah." Following her snarky remark, my cousin got up and managed to stuff herself between me and Danny, also adding a little butt shove to create some more space.
"What's up?" She asked exactly at the same time our commandant stepped into the hall. Darn it. As fast as light, the hall quietened down. People rather feared than respected our commandant, so the silence in the hall was to avoid punishment and for no other reason what so ever. The man who basically ran the school, all dressed in white took his place on the stage and began his speech.
Two hours later, we all filed out of the hall. The whole speech was about our upcoming examinations in the next 4 weeks or so. Now that I actually thought about it, I was behind in maths. The day I'd missed school and the other time I was 'sick' had caused some certain blank spaces in my notes.
I needed to get back on track, with Daniel and my parents, I'd been slacking behind and I thought I didn't care but after that speech, I really did. "What are you thinking about?" I felt a slight pinch on my arm that supported the question in pulling me out of my mind.
I followed the hand that had pinched me to the face of my attacker only to lock eyes with my cousin, who had an arched eyebrow shot in my direction. "Nothing. Lets go for class." Mercy pursed her lips and eyed me for a second before shrugging and linking arms with me, as we headed towards our class. My education before my problems. Kolupo don't lose focus.
"Hey! Kolupo!" Fudge. Joseph stopped me right in front of his class by dropping his hand on my shoulder. I took in a subtle deep breath and forced on a crooked smile. "Joseph." He smiled right back and nodded at Mercy in some silent greeting to which she responded. "Are you going for lesson?" Ignoring my rib shattering heart beat, I furrowed my brows.
Of course I was, had I ever missed lesson? Why was he even asking? "Yes. I am." He nodded slowly with pursed lips. The lord knows the only thing keeping me rooted was the hand on my shoulder. I wasn't sure what to do. Was I to shrug it off or wait for him to take it off? Was I to tell him about it?
I wish I had done one of them, I wish I had done atleast something because maybe that would have made things better. Maybe that would have prevented the atrocity that happened next because the action that took place right after caused a whole lot of problems.

👇*Boring chapter, I'm aware. But it's just to remind us that asides problems, there's still school for our young Protagonist. Kolupo might have other problems at hand but that's no reason to put school on the side. Also, I apologize for the cliffhanger, it's just a thing I'm obsessed with.*
Those of you participating in the Face Of Kolupo Contest, please respond quickly. Love you guys.
