Nothing had changed by the time they arrived back home.

Their loved ones seemed so tired of them. Even the ones they hadn't seen or heard from in a while.

"She had to cause a scene!"

I am not a she...

"She just had to get her way, didn't she!?!"

You didn't let me have a choice in any way..

"I've spent to much time around her. I need a fuckung break. "

Then take one.

The words spoken about them, the constant misgendering, the jokes about any sexuality other than hetero being bad.

They all, took their toll of the already fragile mind held within the body that felt so wrong to them.

They hated her own voice, body, mind, and personality.

They were not violent by nature.

They were cuddly, loving, and rather shy.

But everyone wore that down, and to stop it from being stolen from them they put up a barrier.

A barrier of violence, of dreadful cold, of pain and hatred.

It was not their nature.

Because of the barrier they put up in order to keep some sense of themself, they became starved.

They flinched and ran away from touch. So, so touch starved that they became afraid of it..

They hated being seen, and went to lengths to hide. But they used to strive under the spotlight, not avoid it..

They became afraid of themself, and began to turn that fear to hate.

Unnatural urges to feel pain occurred so often.

Pull on your jaw till it breaks off.

Jump out of the moving car.

Don't leave the loving grip of the water for air.

Scratch the skin off your body.

Pull put your nails.

Rip through your eyes.

Shove a nail under your toenail and kick a wall.

At night, they curled around themselves for some kind of safety.

The once welcomung darkness became a symbol of their fears.

Demons and pain alike dripping from it.

They became so tired.

Emotionally, they couldn't handle another incident with a friend.

Physically their body felt as if it were about to collapse.

Mentally it was as if nothing was there anymore.

They didn't cry anymore, due to various reasons.

They snapped easy.

They threatened.

Their true nature hidden so well, they no longer had a sense of it themself.

But then someone came along, who they fell for.

They fell hard.

They thought, that just maybe, that person had seen through the barrier to their true nature of which they had forgotten themself.

That person hadn't.

They were fooled by the barrier, just luke everyone else.

So they never took the barrier down, and it stood strong.

Shy away from the touch you starve for.

Eating is disgusting.

Darkness is welcome here.

Their loved ones now only knew fading memories of who they had once had.

They, themself, had nothing, other than a ache.

An itch not scratched.

But, away from everyone's eyes, their true nature shown bright.

Caring, multicoloured eyes, a knowing smile, a soft voice.

All to help those who they could not lose, no matter the price.

Because if they did.

The barrier would fall, and they would lose themself alk over again.

It was simple.
