"What are we doing here?" Sky looked around the restaurant with a perplexed expression as she aimed her question at Mason.
"A table for two, please," Mason said to the waiter at the door, who grabbed two menus and lead them to a table as Mason answered her question. "I thought we could celebrate our good exam results."
"That makes no sense. I bet you always get good results," she said as she sat down at the table they'd been brought to while Mason thanked the waiter before doing the same.
He shot her a toothy grin upon hearing her words. "I guess that's true. I suppose we're celebrating your good results then?"
She shot him a look but didn't have a chance to respond before another waiter appeared to take their drinks order.
"I'll have a Phanta. What about you?" Sky turned to face Mason, also causing the waiter's attention to shift to him.
"I'll just have some water. Thank you." Mason smiled at the waiter as he left to go and prepare the drinks.
"Why am I not surprised that even your choice of drink is boring?" They started to look through the menu once the waiter had left.
Mason shrugged his shoulders as he leaned back into the seat, finally able to relax a bit. "Water is healthy and I'm not really one for fizzy drinks anyway. I shouldn't have to drink anything that I don't want to. Speaking of – I'm surprised you're wanting something that isn't alcohol on a Friday. Isn't that all that newly turned 18 year olds want to drink?"
Sky grimaced as she also leaned back in her chair, opting to lift the menu up to her face slightly to avoid looking at him. Instead of answering, she decided to avoid the question by asking a question of her own. "Is it really appropriate for us to just eat together like this though? Together, alone, with just the two of us?"
"Why shouldn't it be?" He raised his eyes then to shoot her a questioning look, only to find that her face was blocked by her menu. "We've done it before."
"Well, yeah... But everyone keeps harping on about how I shouldn't be spending time alone with boys."
Just then the waiter came back with their drinks and Mason thanked him. After realising that Sky wasn't going to lower her menu, Mason looked down at his menu again to continue perusing the dishes. "It's not like you to worry about what everyone else thinks."
She pursed her lips, surprisingly annoyed at his words. "Is there something wrong with occasionally worrying about what others think of you?"
"Not at all. I was just surprised, that's all." Mason closed his menu then, having decided that he was going to have a soup. "Have you decided yet?"
Sky had decided on a burger about five minutes ago, but she still didn't want to lower the menu. Realising how pathetic she was being, she slapped the menu down on the table causing Mason to jump at the sudden movement.
"I have," she said as she closed the menu in front of her.
"Great." Mason waved a waiter over and they told him their food choices before he went to get their food started. Once again, Mason leaned back in his chair whereas Sky leaned forward onto table, pretending that some of the marks on it were rather interesting.
When Mason realised Sky wasn't going to say anything, he wrapped his hand around his glass, catching Sky's attention. As he debated what to say to continue the conversation, he brought the water to his lips and took a drink, with Sky's eyes following his every movement.
As she watched Mason bring the drink up to his lips, she couldn't help but touch her own lips as she fell into thought. Had her lips really touched his? It was such a bizarre thing to think about.
