Déjà vu.

Much like the start of the autumn semester, the thought of starting the spring semester was just as daunting to Sky. Hence, just like the start of the autumn semester, she sent the whole household into disarray.

However, this time there was a distinct difference.

"Sky, where are you?" Mason asked as he walked into the room. Silence greeted him.

Mason sighed. "Sky, I know you're in here; you're not an early riser and aside from that, I've also not seen you leave your room all morning."

Sky couldn't help but pull a bit of a face at his words. Had he been watching her? Keeping an eye on her? The thought was creepy.

"I've been sitting in the hall and studying since early this morning, and I've not noticed anything whatsoever coming from your room," he answered her unspoken question. When she still didn't respond, he started with the threats.

"If you don't come out, I'm going to turn everything in your room upside down. That includes checking every drawer of your wardrobe, and everything else."

Sky rolled her eyes. As if; he'd be more embarrassed at that prospect than she would be. She still felt no need to say anything.

"Alright then... I'll mess everything up without doing it in an orderly fashion. Have fun cleaning that mess up."

Sky frowned. Did he really think she would clean up the mess when the maids would do it anyway?

Mason sighed dramatically. "Alright. You've left me no choice. If you don't come to school and do your part in studying then I won't go to those lessons of yours anymore."

Sky narrowed her eyes at that. He was playing that card?

At first all Mason heard was a bit of rustling and banging coming from behind the wardrobes before Sky emerged from behind them and in front of him. "Here I am. Are you happy now?"

Mason crossed his arms and frowned. "I would be, except you're nowhere near ready. Are you not excited to find out about your exam results?"

Sky imitated his posture and also folded her arms. "Not really. Knowing me, it can't really be anything good."

Mason's frown deepened. "But you worked for it, right? I'm sure that'll show in your grades."

Sky didn't have a chance to respond as their conversation had clearly alerted Karen, who in that moment proceeded to rush into the room with a couple of maids. "Mason, you may leave now; we have to ready Miss Sky," she informed Mason as she ushered him out of the room and closed the door behind him.

Mason had intended to ask whether he was supposed to wait for her or already get going, but instead his mouth was left hanging open as he stared at the closed door in front of him. He shut his mouth.

To wait or not to wait was the question that Mason was then silently asking himself. He turned away from the door and looked at his bag which was already sitting all prepared on the desk in the hallway.

Deciding he was already running late enough as it was, he went and grabbed his bag and headed outside – but not before stopping by the kitchen and having a quick breakfast.

He began to shiver on the walk to school and as he tried wriggling himself deeper inside of his winter jacket he couldn't help but wish that he had waited for Sky so that he didn't have to endure the cold alone - or he'd be distracted from the cold with their conversation at the very least.

As the school gates came into view and he wrapped his arms around himself to see if that kept him warm better, he realised that pretending as though nothing had happened between them at the New Year's party was definitely the right way to go. At least that way they could still be friends.
