The sound of beeping machines was the first thing that Sky noticed when she awoke. For a moment she just lay there, acutely aware of the pain certain parts of her body were feeling and she debated whether she should open her eyes or just drift back off to sleep.
But how long had she even been asleep?
"Sky?" she heard a quiet female voice ask. She opened her eyes to locate the source and found Mason and Lily sat on two chairs beside her hospital bed. "Oh, so you are awake. I had a feeling when I saw your face twitch. How are you feeling?" The smile on Lily's face was small, but her face still displayed relief that Sky had finally woken up.
Sky didn't say anything for a few moments as she turned away from the two and looked towards the other side to see the machine before she looked down at her body which was still hidden under the covers. Just how badly had she been hurt?
"I'm fine," Sky said as she attempted to lift herself into an upright position. Since Mason was closer to the head of her bed, he put a hand on her shoulder and held her down so she couldn't sit up. Sending Mason a half-hearted glare, she gave up and lay back with a huff of air. "Why am I hurting so much?"
Mason and Lily turned to look at each other in alarm before Mason spoke. "Do you not remember what happened?"
"Of course I remember what happened," Sky snapped. "What I meant is why on earth it hurts so much."
Her two friends blinked at her stupidly and would probably have started laughing if not for the situation. "Sky... You were beat up quite badly. Of course you're going to hurt."
Sky didn't respond to that. Instead she just looked ahead of her as she let herself know how disappointed she was in herself. Her body had undergone years of training and yet a few mere punches and kicks had put her in the hospital.
In. The. Hospital.
Sky couldn't hold back a scoff at her current situation, earning her strange looks from her friends which she ignored.
"How did they even get the upper hand on you?" Mason asked after a few moments of silence.
Although Lily knew of the kind of stuff Sky did, it was only Mason who had really first-hand seen what she was capable of, which is why the situation surprised him as much as it did. As Sky and Lily both looked at Mason in response to his question, Lily's gaze was more questioning whereas Sky's was a mixture of embarrassed and angry.
"Don't ask," was all Sky said, muttering the words like she didn't want to be reminded of the reason – which she didn't.
It was in that moment that the door to the hospital room opened and Lisette walked in with a number of drinks and some food, catching the attention of the three in the room.
Lisette's sudden change in mood upon realising Sky was awake immediately changed the atmosphere in the room and actually managed to instil a sense of fear in Sky, for they all knew that Lisette definitely wasn't happy with the situation that Sky had put herself in.
"Well..." Mason started nervously, quickly looking between Sky and Lisette, the latter of which was still making her way over. "Now that Sky is awake and Lisette is back, Lily and I are going to go home to get a change of clothes and freshen up."
"We are?" Lily looked over at Mason questioningly. The fierce gaze from Mason surprised her, so she just went with it. "We are," she said as she got up, avoiding the gaze from the other two for fear they could read her confused expression.
Mason followed suit before they both bade Sky and Lisette farewell and left the room, likely subjecting Sky to a tirade from Lisette.
"I hope Lisette will go easy on her," Lily said quietly as they began making their way to the entrance of the hospital.
