Sky was immediately on edge. "Who are you?"
The guy raised his eyebrows in amusement as he moved out from behind the tree; two other figures also moved out from behind two other trees and into their sight. Rhys immediately took a few quick steps back but Sky stood her ground. "You come onto our turf and demand to know answers? You're plucky," he said.
Sky couldn't help but sneer. "How was I supposed to know that a listless forest is home to a bunch of self-entitled brats?" She was hoping that fearless talk would deter these men from attacking, but she soon realised that these definitely didn't seem the type of men who would back down from a fight.
The guy scoffed as he turned to one of his friends. "Did you guys hear that? She just called us brats. That's clearly rich coming from someone like her who thinks she can just parade around the place without consequences."
Sky smirked as she read the movements of the trio in front of her and knew that the first guy who had stepped out was about to lunge at her. "Stay back, Rhys."
Rhys didn't have time to respond before the unknown man flew forward and attempted to throw a punch at her. Sky reacted swiftly by taking a small step back with her right leg and getting into position to throw a kick that landed right on the back of the guy's head, made possible by his low position as a reaction to his punch. It sent him straight to the ground, unconscious.
She was now focused on the other two who seemed momentarily taken aback at how fast and easily she'd taken down the first guy, but they only hesitated for a split second before they both dove for her simultaneously.
Sky knew that they wouldn't fall for the same trick twice so instead she side-stepped with such agility that she seemed to have vanished for a moment; she ended up behind the men before they realized she was no longer there in front of them. Once they turned back around in an attempt to look for her, Sky punched the tougher looking guy in his chin, causing him to see stars as he fell backwards.
Now it was her against the last man standing – at least, for now. She gave him a once over and decided she'd definitely made the right choice leaving this one for last; he clearly wasn't as tough-looking as the other two, nor did he seem as determined to fight her.
"Do you want to make the first move or shall I?" she asked him as she stood her ground, cocking her head almost innocently to the side.
He didn't respond as he went for her, attempting to hit her with wide and predictable punches which Sky dodged with ease, making it easy for her to catch his arm and lock it and preventing him from moving.
Sky chuckled. "Well, that didn't quite go to plan, did it?"
"Sky, behind you!" Sky suddenly heard Rhys's voice calling out just in time as a short pole swung down where she had been standing just a moment before, hitting the guy she'd just had in her grip in the shoulder. The man let out a shout of pain and bent over as she turned around and sneered at her attacker, but the glare from him at Rhys didn't go unnoticed by her.
"Bringing weapons into a battle against a girl? You guys just keep lowering my already not-so-very-high opinion of you," Sky said, only antagonising her attackers further.
With a knee to the face Sky quickly dispatched the guy she'd just been holding so he also lay unconscious on the ground along with the first guy. Using her forearms to block, she managed to grab the pole from the last attacker as she used it to hold the guy in a choking position.
"Don't force me to do something I don't want to do," she whispered into his ear.
The threat behind her words was enough to instil a sense of fear in the man before he fell unconscious due to the lack of oxygen. She dropped him to the ground. As a last warning sign, she stabbed the pole into the ground beside the head of the man, nodding once as she admired her handiwork in the dim light.
