Familiar feelings

Once I was ready, there was a knock at the door, suddenly a ball of nerves sprang to my stomach as I  knew it was Roman. It had been so long since I'd really seen him properly to hang out even and gone out and explored the night with him. I checked myself over in the mirror by the door one more time before fluffing up my hair and unlocking the door with a nervous smile, I was immediately greeted with big, green candid eyes as Roman moved away from leaning against the door frame.

He looked at my outfit and back at my face in awe, making me a little embarrassed. The corner of his mouth upturned into an impresses smile.
"Wow.. you uh, you look nice."
I gave a polite smile and looked at what he was wearing. He'd obviously made an effort which I wasn't gonna lie, was kinda impressed to see.
"Thanks. So do you."
Roman held his arm out to me for me to hold, to which I did after locking up.
Roman wore a black leather jacket undone and plain black shirt underneath with slim fit jeans with black biker boots.

This was the first time I'd seen Roman in a leather jacket and he looked really, really good. Once we'd made it to the centre of the city, we both gasped up at the huge skyscrapers, I still gazed at them even though I'd see them on a daily basis. This guy knocked into me as he passed, and New Yorkers being New Yorkers, he didn't apologise and proceeded to march past. (Stereotypically, not all Ik). Roman quickly grabbed the back of the guy's shirt and pulled him back violently, the guy was bald and fairly short with glasses and looked around 40/50.
"Hey! Watch where you're fuckin going?"
Roman glowered viscously at him. I put my hand in Roman's shoulder but he pulled away, getting closer to the intimidated man in front of him.
"Aren't you going to apologise or are you going to carry on being a fuckin asshole?"
Roman was still grasping the guy's shirt. The guy coughed uncomfortable before his eyes quickly diverted to me,
"I'm, I'm sorry ma'am, do forgive me., it was an honest mistake."
He spluttered, his eyes full of regret. I felt terrible, this wasn't right, I mean yeah he could've given a quick sorry, but this was a busy city that never slept, what do you expect? I gave a small, embarrassed smile, glaring at Roman who finally unclenched his tightened grasp from the man's shirt.
"Go."
Roman looked straight into his eyes commandingly before the guy turned round and walked straight ahead.

"Roman, what the fuck?"
I said in a pissed off tone making him look surprised. He shrugged carelessly with a small frown, oblivious to the fact what he did was wrong. I released a heavy breath, seeing the cool cloud it left in the cold.
"It's New York, Roman. People bump into each other on a daily fucking basis. It's life."
I said in a serious manor.
"Alright, alright. So I was a little harsh on him, but can you really be mad at me for defending your personal space?"
He smirked discretely but so I'd notice. I chuckled rolling my eyes before linking my arm back with his as we proceeded to explore the city in all its nighttime glory.

We took away two lattes and began to talk, like we were getting to know each other again, only finding out maybe more than we ever did know about each other, after all it had been so long and people change.
"If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?"
I asked, glancing up at him by my side as we walked. He glanced back after a small pause with a comfortable smile in his chiselled face.
"Right here. With you."
I smiled at him in awe, I couldn't ignore the familiar feeling of my heart fluttering after so long. I thought I'd forgotten what that felt like.
"And you?"
He asked soon after as he turned back to looking ahead at the street we walked. I turned back to look in front too as I thought for a couple seconds, picturing every place round the world I could. For some reason I couldn't, right now, here was where I needed to be.
"Right here."
I smiled at him as he glanced back at me returning one.
"I would love to travel though. Soon maybe."
I continued as we took a left to a pretty little side street with twinkle lights and some coffee and pizza places that were open 24 hours.
"Me too. I'd also like to go back to that beach house we went to. It was where I was my happiest. Things were.. good. Great actually. I knew Shelley was safe, I had Peter.. and I had you. Man I fucking missed you."
He looked away at the floor with a slight, uneasy laugh like he knew he shouldn't have said what he'd said. My heart fluttered again and my mouth spoke before my mind and I said something I shouldn't have. Now he was going to think me and Darius don't mean anything to each other, that he can just come straight back into my life after so long.
"I missed you too. So, so much."
Roman's face lit up, it was almost like there was a slight spark behind his large eyes, a spark I'd not seen since Letha's death and Shelley's disappearance.

"Come on."
I lightly smiled back, not realising we'd stopped. I felt myself gripping onto Roman's arm tighter as it got colder, but the views and lights were too beautiful to be inside. Roman was so tall, the cold didn't seem to effect him, but saw I was shivering slightly and slowed to a stop, gently placing his free hand on my wrist as he gently lifted it off his arm, giving me a small smile before removing his leather jacket, helping me put it on over my own jacket, reaching for both my hands as I placed them in his, my arms outstretched as he one by one, rolled both the sleeves up my wrists so it didn't appear as big on me as it was. I glanced up at him through my lashes with a slight smile, taken aback by how gentle he now was and treated me with such care and tenderness.

"Thank you."
I spoke softly as he nodded with a kind smile, gently with his large hand, lifting my wrist again, my hand being placed on his firm arm as he let go and I slipped my arm into his, the side of my body touching his gently as we began to walk again, my head falling against his sturdy shoulder. I felt this sudden feeling of protection and it was like a feeling you'd feel after being homesick without realising it till you got back home and realised just how much you'd missed it, or if you'd been vulnerable and at risk of everything in the world that could harm you, till you get back to your safe place and you feel like nothing can touch you. You are safe.
"What's your favourite colour?"
Roman asked with a smirk, he knew exactly what I'd say.
"Black."
I answered smirking at the road as we walked.
"Because black is poetic."
He said at the same time as me.
"Jesus, and I thought you were asleep when I said that."
I laughed, remembering the night after we'd made love for the third time that night at the beach house, then asked silly questions till 3am, our limbs rested over each other and eyelids heavy.

I looked in the corner of my eye to see Roman smiling softly at me, I blushed hard suddenly realising he must remember that night too. He made me cum three times and we were at it for hours. It was the best night of my life.
"I remember a lot from that night."
He chuckled softly, glancing over at me as our pace slowed.
"Oh god, I wasn't meaning to bring that up."
I laughed, covering my face with both hands, pausing on the street. Roman laughed and I felt his presence stop in front of me, then his large hands moving mine from my face as my blue/green eyes met his pale green ones. I could tell my cheeks were red and his smirk turned to a soft almost apologetic smile before I smiled softly back, linking my arm back in his as we continued to walk.
"And your favourite colour is navy blue because it's the deepest of blues like a stormy sea at night or a night sky."
I quoted him. He looked at me impressed with a chuckle.
"Shee-it. How queer do I sound?"
He looked ahead again.
"Shut up."
I playfully slapped his arm with my free hand.
"I thought it was beautiful."
I smiled in awe as I remembered his eyes when he described that colour, half lidded but iridescent irises gleaming through long lashes.
"Haha, come on."
He laughed, pulling me towards a club. I raised one eyebrow suspiciously as we stopped by the door.
"Dance with me. It'll be a laugh."
Roman explained hopefully as he held both my hands in his now as we stood in the cold opposite each other.
"One hour."
I said in a fake serious tone as I tried to hide an excited grin. Before either of us could say anything else, Roman pulled me by the waist into the club and we spent three hours dancing. Shit, what was I doing?
