After a few more days passed, Roman kept waking up to nightmares but couldn't explain what they were about as he didn't know himself. I'd asked him if he thought Peter might be having the same dreams as I knew they used to have but he shut that idea down pretty quick. Today was my day off so decided to surprise Roman at work. I put on a cute little blue skirt with a white cropped T-shirt and some white heeled sandal platforms. I grabbed the car keys and drove to the White Tower. I went to reception and the guy immediately called for Roman as he recognised me from when I'd been here before for other things to cheer Roman up. This time I'd arranged to have lunch with him.
Trevor lead me to Roman's office and lead me in after Roman's answer. I looked up through my lashes as I gave him a small smile, taking small steps toward him as I felt his eyes run up and down my body.
"You're looking very cute today."
Roman spoke seductively. I hid a blush still looking down till I eventually met his eyes, my hair covering half my face slightly from it falling.
"Thank you."
I replied as I stepped closer, tucking my hair behind my ear and meeting his beautiful face. I leant forward and kissed the tip of his nose before his lips. He kissed me back before asking me what I wanted for lunch. After we'd finished eating, Roman seemed agitated and suddenly his gorgeous green eyes couldn't seem to meet mine. Concerned I put my hand atop his from across the table and gave it a light squeeze as I tried to read him.
"Hey.."
I pushed lightly, making Roman finally make eye contact.
"Roman, is there something wrong? Had something happened?"
I asked worriedly. Roman looked down once more before releasing a heavy breath and taking my hands in his as he struggled to maintain eye contact.
"There's.. there's something I've been meaning to tell you. For a while now."
I couldn't help but gulp, why was I suddenly now feeling so much anxiety and worry when he's not suggested it be good or bad.
"Ok?"
I answered confused as my eyes locked with his. Roman shifted a little in his seat before saying,
"The uh, that crying you thought you heard the other night.. when I told you it was just the wind or a nightmare and you went right back to sleep. It, it wasn't a nightmare, or the wind."
Suddenly I began to feel really confused and wasn't understanding what he was clearly trying to explain. My brows furrowed as I hinted for him to continue.
"Roman I'm.. I'm confused."
Roman took another deep breath, releasing it while closing his eyes, then reopening them to greet mine again.
"Roman, what's going on?"
I questioned now more impatient.
"That noise you heard, the uh, the crying. It was a baby."
I was stunned, not even sure if I'd heard right. I raised an eyebrow and asked him to repeat it.
"The crying was a baby. It's Letha's, she became a mum not too long ago, she's not around anymore obviously, so it's kinda my responsibility."
Roman looked down at our touching hands."Hey,"
I stroked Roman's cheek with the backs of my fingers, giving him a soft smile.
"baby you could've told me, I would've helped."
Roman gave a small smile before looking down.
"I love you."
Roman's eyes met mine again but they were filled with sympathy for some reason.
"I love you too."
I smiled before leaning in to place a soft kiss to his lips to which he returned.
"I should head back baby, I gotta be home to let the plumber in to fix the taps."
I kissed Roman's cheek and he gave me a smile but before I left he called out.
"Naomi!"
I turned and stood in the doorway, Roman smirked before replying.
"No flirting with the plumber."
He knew I'd never but I smirked and left with a single wink to wind him up before heading back to my car to leave.Once Roman was home, I was just falling asleep after a long bath so tried to keep my eyes open to say hi. I heard his footsteps coming up the stairs, even after everything we'd been through, I still got goosebumps as this beautiful man was about to bless my eyes with his presence. Before I knew it he was in the doorway. His half closed big emerald eyes looked to me as I sat up a little with a soft smile.
"Baby, you look tired."
I spoke with concern. He moved from the doorway with a sarcastic chuckle as he made his way to the closet and began removing his clothes slowly.
"Can I make you a drink, run you a shower?"
I offered, pulling the satin sheets from myself, about to stand up. Roman quickly spun round and pushed me back down on the bed, restraining my wrists, his nose touching mine and eyes glaring into mine.
"I don't want you running round after me. Ever. You are not a housewife."
He spoke sternly with gritted teeth, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared. He seemed to notice this and slowly released my wrists and moved away to continue removing his clothes.
"I'm sorry."
He mumbled with his back to me.
"I just never want you to feel like that. What we have.. it's special. Different. I'd like to keep it that way."
Roman then gave me a soft smile before going into the bathroom to shower. I huffed to myself, climbing back into the sheets frustratedly, annoyed at how Roman could just flip like that.I heard crying start up, pretty loud so I got out of bed to follow the sounds. I saw the lights were on downstairs so tip toed down quietly. I saw the back of Roman's maid but before I turned to go upstairs I suddenly realised, why would a maid be here at this time? I decided to question her, so headed down the stairs and swiftly into the kitchen releasing a small cough to grab the woman's attention as to avoid scaring her. She spun round nevertheless and there in her arms was a baby. My eyes locked with the baby's as I was stared in awe at these glowing arctic blue eyes staring back at me.
"It's Mr Godfrey's I take care of her for him."
The maid stammered obviously thinking she was in trouble.
"Wait, you mean it's actually.. Roman's baby?"
I hesitated in utter shock and confusion. The maid's eyes then moved from mine to the stairway behind as she looked scared again, making my eyes finally tear away to find Roman stood with his hands in his pockets and eyes piercing into the maid's with pure rage.
"Take the baby back to her room. Now."
Roman spoke sternly without missing a beat. The maid was trembling slightly but did as told, scooting nervously and quickly past me.I waited for Roman's eyes to land on me but they followed the maid right up to the second she disappeared into one of the rooms. The atmosphere was thick with intensity as Roman's eyes slowly drifted to mine, his face unreadable. More seconds passed before I got impatient and mad.
"Roman. What the fuck aren't you telling me? What don't I know?"
I've never been so incredibly blunt and sharp with him, let alone this serious. He stepped slowly down the stairs before making his way into the lounge. I followed and sat beside him on the couch with a large space between us, my body turned to him.
"She's mine."
Is all he said. My heart physically dropped and my eyes filled up so quickly with tears I didn't know it were possible.
"W, why, how? When?!"
I suddenly raised my voice in sudden anger, confusion and hurt.
"Please, come sit with me. I'll explain everything."
Roman said calmly as he began slowly heading down the stairs. After we'd sat and he'd explained everything, I was in tears, I don't think I'd ever hugged anyone so tight, even Roman released some tears onto my shirt before we headed back upstairs to hold each other in the stillness under the sheets till sunrise, having hardly slept as the the fresh morning sunlight drenched us as we lay with our arms tight around each other. I still knew it, felt it. My love for him. And it would never die.
