Chapter 2

                   Charlie's police cruiser was parked dead center in the drive way which put an unsettling feeling in my stomach and made me utterly nervous. Usually when Charlie came home early it meant that something was seriously wrong or that something bad had happened. I exchanged a short look with my sister before I slung my bag over my shoulder and as both of us headed for the door.
Bella opened it with a bit of hesitation while I sat jacket up on the coat rack. In doing so I sneak a glance down at unfamiliar pair of boots. As I took a closer look at them I could see that they were the fanciest pair of boots that I had ever seen and that immediately sent a shiver up my spine.
The only family in town who I knew that made expensive taste was the Cullen's. And after meeting Edward I was not about ready to meet another one.
When Bella rounded the corner, she came face to face with Alice. I rolled my eyes at them hugging one another and tried to make a dash for the stairs just as Charlie peeked out and spotted me.
"Hey kiddo". He greeted me with that nice tone of his. I smiled then faked one as I turned to look at Alice. I was not over the fact that she and her entire family had left my sister. I don't think I could ever get over that, but Alice seemed to truly care for my sister. At least from what she had told me, but I was still on a fence about her.
"Hi dad". I said back.
"Oh, I forgot. Did Bella introduce you to- "
"we've already meant, dad". I interrupted him crossing my arms over my chest.
He glanced over at my sister then back at me. "Oh".
"Yeah...."
"Well anyway I just wanted to tell you that Jake called again today. He misses you-
"Look I have some homework that I need to get started on". I lied trying to get myself away from talking to another Cullen. And away from the subject of Jacob Black.
Jake had been calling both my cell, Bella's, and our home begging to talk to me, but I wouldn't take his call. I couldn't even begin to talk to him right now. I was still processing everything that had happened that night that changed everything.
It was still too soon. Too early to confront him about it. I figured if we got together again now that id just end up yelling at him the whole time or saying something to him that id regret.
The very idea of lying or snapping at him was not something I was proud of, but I was in no mood to talk to anyone at the moment.
And besides I really did have homework that I needed to get started one.
"Sure, kiddo".
Nodding my head and glanced back down the stairs at Alice one more time before dashing up the stairs and vanishing into my room.
Away from the pressures of the world.
And away from the presence of others...
However, those wishes were shortly lived as my phone started to ring uncontrollably. I didn't have to pick it up to know who it was. The only person who had been calling me repeatedly lately was Jake.
          He would call almost every day. Some days even twice. Just to get my attention, but I could not bring myself to answer any of them. Maybe I should have, but I as so many times before I would just ignore the calls. Sometimes even decline them.
Sighing I picked up my phone from my nightstand and once against clicked the decline call button. Then I toot my phone and tossed it across the room. It landed with a large thud. And I did not care.
        What the hell was wrong with me? Why couldn't I test tell that yeah, I needed more time, but that we'd talk soon? But no call I could do was run away from him. He was still technically my boyfriend...so I owed him that much.
Yes, he had lied to me about something big. About my sister dating a vampire, but he said that he was trying to protect me.
Maybe it was good enough to forgive him, but I just- couldn't right now. I needed more time....
"Why did all this have to happen to me?" I whispered angrily to myself.
