44: Burst

"Okay... And you're ready if something goes wrong?" Will clarified.

"Of course. Nothing will go wrong, Will, it's your own magic. You have this." Nico assured, though Will didn't believe him much. Will had distinct memory of light magic harming him-not his fault, but that didn't change it. He did with shadows too, but shadows were Nico's jurisdiction. And Will trusted Nico-with this sort of stuff, at least.

"Yeah. Okay." Will took a deep breath in, focusing on trying to make a small ray of light. He swears he didn't have to try all that hard to make something like this before, but it was a very emotion-based magic. Fear kept it from easily being created.

And nothing happened. Will was almost relieved, maybe he wouldn't have to deal with that ever again. Maybe the ability was just lost.

He kept focusing, though. Just to make sure that he just wasn't trying hard enough.

And then it did work.

What seemed to be a small bomb of harmless light burst from Will's hands, expanding outwards through the Hades cabin before dissipating. Nico gave a small gasp, relaxing the moment he realized it wasn't going to harm them.

Will looked terrified. He yelped the moment the light-bomb appeared, and his eyes remained wide as it was gone. He seemed to be staring at nothing, into space, completely still.

"Will?" Nico asked gently, tentatively. He took one step towards Will, seeming hesitant, not knowing how he'd react. Will didn't respond.

"Will?" Nico repeated his question, slightly more worried. He didn't have to remain worried for long, though.

"Sorry! Sorry, I just... I didn't mean for that to happen, that was an accident, this was supposed to help me with trusting my shit and that obviously didn't help? Instead I just got-I got temporarily petrified, and that's just... Honestly unfair." Will sighed, defeated. Defeated, tired, and saddened.

"It's okay, Will. I'm sorry that happened." Nico pulled Will into a hug.

"'S my fault. Too much built up energy, sploded from... Potential energy, I don't know. Tired." Will muttered, already seeming half asleep.

"Then let's get you a nap, sunshine boy. Nap and cuddling. Yes?" Nico suggested, though he didn't really have to even ask.

"Nap and cuddling." Will confirmed with a yawn.

"With great power comes great need to take a nap." Nico quoted himself, because, to be fair, it was a fantastic line.

"Great need to nap indeed..."
