Chapter 13

Finally, the long day ended and Sebastian dismissed me for the day. He and Ken along with Sarah gave me every minute detail of their last 13 years that my brain was almost on the verge of exploding.

It was fun listening to their childhood though. To sum them up they were the terrible trio, which always got into trouble. It was so good to hear they had so much in their childhood but a very small part of me envied them too because I never had anything which they had. Undoubtedly, I too got the best education but the fun part and memories were missing. The family was missing. I have no memories aside from being alone without my family's protection, all by myself with the demons ready to crumble me underneath their heavy paw.

"Are you okay?" Ken asked me as I was resting my head on the window of the car and rubbing my temple. A small pain is erupting but it wasn't anything I hadn't had before.

"Yeah..I am fine."

"The wedding is in two weeks." He said and I nodded. I always had one complain that why don't he has anything else to talk about? But again, even though being siblings we don't know each other well to have a conversation on any other topic.

"Did you find a dress?" He asked and I nodded again.

"It's gone for the fitting and stuff." I told him in a bored tone.

"Good. You and Seth seemed to be getting along well. It's going good so far." He said and I tried to force a smile.

"He is nice and Sarah as well. She too is very sweet."

"I know." He gave me his rare genuine smile looking at me sideways.

"Can I ask you a thing?"

"Yes...ofcourse." He said with a smile.

"Can we have a small private wedding in place of all this?" I asked and he frowned.

"Why?"

"Just like that. You can say that I am not prepared for all this. We both know it's just...fake...so why not have it privately with just family." I suggested with a shrug.

"If you are not comfortable than' I'll talk to Seth about it."

"Thanks." I smiled and a yawn passed my lips.

"Tired?"

"A bit." I told him and he bobbed his head looking at the road ahead. I leaned my head back to the door and closed my eyes making use of the time and the silence as much as I could but then a very important question which had been bothering me from so long came into my mind and I didn't want to leave the opportunity of asking him this question.

"Ken?"

"Hmm." He said still looking ahead.

"Is Dad upset with me?" I asked and he looked at me.

"Umm..no." He said uncertainly not even looking at me.

"Then why does he avoid me?"

"He doesn't." He said and there was a long pause in the car. We both know it wasn't the right answer but the awkwardness was getting thicker.

"Does he hate me?" I asked feebly and instantly looked out of the window not at all liking the feel of those words. It's even hard to imagine my own Dad hating me and from the inside, I was just praying Ken tells me that I am wrong.

Ken realized a puff of air and continued.

"Katherine...he doesn't hate you."

"Then why he keeps avoiding me."
