So I made a new AU involving mermaids and pirates! I call it Song Of The Sea (SOTS)! Not gonna give too many specific right now, just gonna let it play out.

You'll find out who is what as it goes

Third Person
Captain Kai Kraken was well known for quite a few things. When people spoke about him, they'd often mention how he was now one of the most infamous pirate captains, or how he was the son of a former terrifying pirate captain.

He was The KrakenKid, a nickname that circled the globe because of his ship, The Kraken, and his age, now barely twenty six, the youngest successful pirate so far.

His hair was black, long and braided in beads, and his skin was starting to tan. He often wore long purple coats with golden accents and wore several golden rings and chains. But the thing everyone noticed the first time they saw him face to face was none of things.

Instead, it was his eyes. Unnaturally golden and glowed in the dark. It gave him an ability to seek as if it were day much of the time. Many speculated if he was human at all, but given that seemed to be the only unusual part of him, no one could prove it. Or at least, no one has said otherwise.

He ruled the sea, and had a set goal in mind. One he had for ages, ever since the war between mermaids and sailors came to a halt ten years ago. One that would fully end the war with a sound winner and loser, instead of the tension that haunted the seas, both above and below.

It seemed impossible at first glance. For a few years, Kai himself thought it was. And then, it changed.

Kai remembered it like it were yesterday. He was nineteen at the time.

A storm raged on all around him and he was trying to pull his crew- and his ship- together. The winds were particularly strong that night, and he struggled to stay on his feet, shouting orders.

It was difficult to see anything other than shapes, with the exception of a flash of lighting that illuminated everything. Kai moves towards a fallen member of his crew, shouting to hold on to whatever he could and get below deck.

Kai was so focused on them he didn't notice how close he was to the edge, or the scattered coils of rope below him. It happened in a blink of an eye, and Kai wasn't even sure what happened when he hit the cold, unforgiving water.

He shot back up, swimming desperately to keep about water and hearing shouts from the crew above him. They screamed his name over and over, and Kai got a strangled reply before a wave crashed over him and he sputtered. And then another came, pushing him under the water and forcing him to do more work to stay up.

Struggling for breath, he couldn't seem to see if The Kraken was getting pulled away, or if he was. A combination of both would've made sense. He tried swimming towards it, but only got pulled under again and again.

It was getting hard to even breathe. Kai gasped over and over for the fleeting air until his muscles grew too exhausted to continue, both because of the work, and the cold that froze him out.

Kai began to sink below the waves. He tried to move but he seemed to lose all feeling in his body and couldn't move. Bubbles left his mouth, first one, then three, then a dozen. Air getting sucked out of his lungs quicker than he could process, and his eye lids grew heavy.

There was the pain of suffocation at first, it made him writhe and thrash, but sooner than he expected, there was nothing. His lungs were full of water and the fact that he was even conscious was a miracle. He just became an weight, pulled down in the water. Further and further away from his ship, and the light, and plunging into the darkness.
