You ever get an idea and you just-

Warning: Implies PTSD/Flashback, an anxiety spike, and a toxic relationship?

(Yeah I'm mean to my characters but dang it it sounded so poetic in my head)

Second Person
There's a man at the end of the hall who isn't there.

You know he isn't. You know this but you still jump when you see him. Your heart still races. You're trapped even though you have places to run and he's not real- he's not real stop acting like he is he's not.

The doubt in your mind is the killer. That little 'What if' because he's still out there and what if he managed to find you?

You don't know who he is but at the same time, you do. A name at the tip of your tongue. A memory in the cellar of your mind. A face that smiles but it's not friendly and he's mocking you because he knows. He knows that you'll never be free because he's alive and he'll find you.

But he's not here. And you don't know him.

It's their memory. Their fear. Your very souls are bonded and even though you have no idea who he is, they do and they're so very scared.

It's not the first time you've seen him but he's never lasted this long. How long has it been? Hour? Minute? A second? You can't tell because your own mind breaks all concept of time when it gets like this. You've seen him out of the corner of your eye before or briefly in front of you but never like this.

He's smiling. It's that same smile. He's out there, he'll find you, and then he'll... He'll...

You don't know. That's as far as they let you remember.

"He's not here." You have to remind them. Their fear is suffocating but you've felt it before. You've had to pull them back from the waters before.

(And they've had to do the same to you).

"But he's right there!"

"Look, really look. He's not."

They look and they're silent for a moment.

"What happens when he is here?"

"He's not going to find you." You don't know why you know that's the right words to say, but you just do. You can feel them start to settle. The man at the end of the hall remains.

"But what if he does?"

There's silence.

"Then we make him leave."

"He's not going to comply like that."

"I wasn't implying that we ask. I'm saying we make him leave. For good."

"He's stronger."

"And I'm stubborn. I'll find a way."

There's surety. They know you. They know that's how you work.

You blink.

"Okay."

And he's gone.

————————
Sometimes it's hard to forget that man at the end of the hall. But he's not real.

The worst of demons often lurk in your mind. A man becomes a monster but he's really just a man. He's still mortal.

The characters cannot be known at this time. That's for a later time. But, I figured this was interesting enough.

The deepest of secrets lie in the deeper ends of the ocean.

Yeah I'm feeling cryptic tonight. Sue me, my birthday is in a few hours and I'm inspired. If you don't know the drill, I hope this was interesting. Commenting is always appreciated and loved, and have a good rest of the day!

(I have no excuses for not being active for months other than school and being extra busy this summer)
